Noob question of Nikon lenses

Could someone please explain to me if I could use an AF-S to micro 4/3 adaptor to use AF lenses. Is AF-S the same as G? Where does AI fit into all of this? I think I've also seen an AF-D?

Nikon lens overload.

all Nikon lenses are the same mount, you are just talking about the different generations of glass. If it is a nikon lens it will fit on a nikon mount.

The G lenses don't have an aperture ring so if you have a G lens you need an adapter which will be able to control the aperture of the lens. All lenses that have manual aperture rings will do fine with every Nikon m4/3 adapter.

It's actually an AI-S lens, which is the same thing for our purposes.

Basically any Nikon lens will work on the GH1, whether non-AI, AI, AI-S, AF, AF-G, AF-S, AF-I, but the "G" lenses do not have an aperture ring so you have to get the special "G" M4/3 adapter for them. Non-AI, AI, and AI-S lenses are the best to use on the GH1 because they are made for manual focus and have nice big smooth focusing rings (and they always have an aperture ring too). The newer AF lenses are not as desirable because often the focus goes past infinity and often the focusing rings are small or feel weird and such.

On Nikon still camera bodies, it is a different story, and not all of the types are compatible, some giving different features on different bodies, etc. But with the GH1 you don't have to worry about all that.

Interested in this one from Ebay too. Has anyone finally taken the plunge and gotten this adapter? I am looking for a Nikon Adapter as well. Thanks!

So just to jump in here ... From what I'm reading ... (unless i'm taking it wrong) if im using vintage manual nikon lenses, do i even need an adapter? (im thinking of purchasing a GH1 soon)

Yes you have to have an adapter for any non-micro4/3 lenses. Any Nikon lens EXCEPT the newer "G" lenses will work with ANY Nikon adapter. The "G" Nikkors have to have a special adapter that lets you change the aperture on the adapter since Nikon G lenses have no aperture ring.

I'd recommend the adapter sold by Rainbow Wan (rainbow imaging) - it's a little cheaper on Amazon (he sells on amazon and ebay). It has an aperture adjustment. Very inexpensive!
