Hey, not sure if this is the best place to post this but...
My budget is $1700 tops.
I'm looking for a professional camera to start shooting professional stuff, as of now the DVX100b seems like the smartest buy. Does anyone disagree? Is there any other cameras out there today that can contend with the DVX? Would trying to go HD be a bad decision? And what is all this talk about the 35mm adapter? Is it really that great? If so how much and where can I get one?
Thanks in advance :)

Hmmm, well seeing as you're on a Dvx forum, I don't think too many people will disagree with you on buying a Dvx camera...

A lot of it depends on what your experience is with video. It sounds like you are making the decision to step up from a little 1 chip camera to a 3ccd one.

If that is the case, I would definitely go with a Dvx. However, if 1700 is your budget, I would really consider getting a dvx100a and getting some goodies to go with it. If you are a noob anyway, it's worth the little sacrifice to get a little more bang for your buck.

If you are new to this, don't even worry about the adapter. Spend some time to get to know your camera and be comfortable with it first.

alot of people love the canon hv20 i guess that could be a nice starter camera but you need the new version of final cut i think to get the 24p a used dvx is also a great buy with money left over for a decent fluid head tripod

Keep an eye on the marketplace forum and get a good, well-cared for, used DVX. A or B. (A has time lapse, B does not.)

HD wouldn't necessarily be a bad choice, but might be more than you justifiably need right now. The DVX will get you into the world of 3-chip cameras, professional control features, and 24p workflow. You'll get some good mileage out of it before you reach the point where you go HD.

Well put C2V! I totally agree!

What's Your Goal?

What's Your Goal?

If your goal is to learn and develop the craft of making films, then, HELL YEAH, a used DVX is the way to go. Get a used SD camera and put in your dues. Put yourself in the position where you deserve a new, high-end camera.

As mentioned in another post, I intentionally bought the A model because the image can be flipped upside-down using a magnet. Why? Because if you use a 35MM adapter without a flipping/reverse attachment, the image on your screen will be upside-down due to the nature of lenses.

Believe me, if you are wanting to make films, you're going to want a 35MM adapter sooner or later. I made one myself and this site is filled with discussions teaching people how to make them.

The magnet trick does not work on the B, so it's something to consider. I found a great, super clean 100A on Craigslist and am happy with it. Be patient, do your homework and you won't regret it.
