Noisy dvx100

Hello gentlemen, this is my first post, I use to read this section often and I tought I can find some answer.

First. I got dvx100AE, SGpro35 and Macbook pro with FCut
I wanted to get the best of all this stuff and I started to make test
I´m getting totally crazy because always there is noise allaround, not big noise but allways noticiable in the darkest parts of image, like film grain.
I make black balance several times. When I see it in the camera lcd everything looks good, but when I export footage to my computer start the party.
I import like DVPal and work in timeline with dvpal compresor. And finally I export to QTmovie conversion with several Codecs to see what is going on:
8bits uncomp : color depth but poor definition
Proress 422HQ : Is not bad
DVpal : horrible totally blury
10bits uncomp : blury

But allways noise aroud and some artefacts. The camera has 110 hours and never cleaned the heads before.
I´m afraid because if I do a DVD it will get more poor definition, totally compres mpeg2, blury and full of grain.
Somebody can tell me a workflow that works for my dvx100? about codecs that work for him....please.

Thansk a lot!

I will post later, but I shoot allways outdoors, so it is imposible, and I´´m checking zebras often, sometimes I need down my f. I need to check my canon lenses as well. I´m not sure they opem/close properly....so, you don´t think is a head dirty? Thanks for reply

Well I dont want to sound like a dick, but viewing sd footage on an HD monitor, such as your macbook, which may be close to 3x the resolution of the DVX, it's going to look noisy no matter what you do always. There just isn' enough resolution for it to be clear.

With that said, make sure all your settings are right, aka, gain at 0, low detail level, increase the coring a bit. These should all help in clearing up the image but it's going to be noisy regardless.

Thanks Adam
My mac is new, I´m not useto look sd there, suppose you are right. I will do a DVD and check it out in SD enviroment. I use to put gain just 0 i all levels just yo dont get grain acidentaly in my image and coring 5+-, so I think you are right , it allways will be noisy in HD world. I hope!!
About codecs, what do you think about to export QT with prores or 8 bits, any suggestions?

Thanks adam and kevin

I am currently still using PPcs3 so I have never really exported anything quicktime. I usually just use the Mpeg-2 VBR 2 pass.

I certain amount of noise/grain is normal is most moving images. There is lots of grain in 35mm films. Don't get caught up too much with the grain you see when editing your footage. Will anyone notice when watching your film? Probably not. It would have to be a pretty bad film for people to start picking on the noise level in your images.

That being said, the DVX100A is the noisiest of the line. As was said, lower DETAIL levels, raise CORING. Make sure your MASTER PEDESTAL isn't higher than it needs to be, and avoid the CINELIKE_D gamma. If you can keep your CHROMA/COLOR settings neutral, that's good, since changing those adds some noise.

Yes, you boys are right. I think she has the same problems of his big HDsister HVX200.
Anyway, I made a DVD, I saw it in an standar TV and...not noise, good color, not artefactrs....Do you say that the more dinamic range of CINELIKE_D give noise? I will check it...but the colours with that gamma are pretty neutral..so?
Maybe I raised a bit detail because I was thinking SGPro adapter rest some detail, but I think I raised +2.

Thanks a lot boys. Well, I give a link to my test, it was only the first test of the SGPro.
I was totally depress watching on my macbook, and smiling a bit when I was back on SD http://www.vimeo.com/951122 It is mpeg2, so don´t see it full screen

Thanks Adam! Your advice was super. I´m a mac rookie and I was so disapointed!! I hope get a HD soon and forget about DV, but for now.....

I was in the same boat, but I sold my "hd" cam for the dvx. Realistically, its the story your telling not the equipment it was shot on. I would bet my life that had stanley kubrick shot the shining on a dvx100 it would still be one of the greatest films of all time.

Wait for the new cams to be released IE scarlet, hmc150 etc because spending thousands.

Totally agree. I´ve seen a lot of crap in HD. I´m trying to shoot nice shoots, and I will get it in my dvx anyway. Yesss! Sacarlet!! 3000$, I payed more or less the same for my dvx 2hand. And the REDRAY. I don´t know about hmc150, I will chec it out. But, while you thinking buy one, you have 2, 3 new models, see EX1, EX3....Hi
