Canon recommends putting the the body cap on when performing ABB. The point is to have a completely light free environment so the camera can do it's thing. Second best practice is lens cap on and close down the lens to f22 like Drew does.I run ABB with the lens and the lens cap on but I would try to do it with the camera in the bag so that its as dark as possible.
I find it hard to imagine many clients having a problem with the noise or macro blocking in that video. If you looked closely at the Blu-ray version of any Hollywood blockbuster, you might find similar patterns in the video.
I care. I've even complained to Comcast about it. More of us need to complain so hopefully they actually do something about it. I was chatting with an engineer a while ago who told me that a lot of the compression artifacts that are on TV are not because of the bandwidth limitations but because the providers are milking their old encoders instead of upgrading to newer better ones. I don't know how common or true that is, but it wouldn't surprise me.true that. it drives me nuts having to watch beautiful shows like game of thrones get wrecked by compression to stream it, but no one else seems to care.
