Noise on movement?

I apologize to Alister Chapman, harddrive's responses seemed familiar from another forum. Both he and harddrive are good sources of knowledge. I didn't want harddrive's posts to be deleted.

Don't beat yourself up Jeff I have been a long term SONY user in pro broadcast for 30 years but when it came to being my inheritance I was squandering I chose Panasonic and P2 as my system for HD.

Apart from that the codec and pictures are just better to me and as a mac user as well for five years those PC and Sony people don't know what they are missing:happy:

I now duck for cover but happy to have done full feature films, broadcast HD and all sorts of great things on two 301's when the client and everyone thought they were varicam 3700's.

I still charged them the lower rate so they are very happy at such a good deal and the editors all love AVC intra 4.2.2 as they can grade with confidence and I have not had any comments or questions so far in a year.

Off out with an old DOP friend on Thurs who just did the AC/DC Iron man promo and gig in south america on 24 HD cameras with 16 of them RED cameras.

Yup an HPX 301 is what is out for hire and I am back to sound and being HD consultant for the day!

Can somebody make one simple test, please?

Two uncompressed frames 1080p AVC Intra 100 - one with P.A.P filter Type 1 and one with Type 2 ?

I rented 371, but I didn't know abou this new noise reduction. So, please, post two frames here.

Thank you

Did not follow this thrad untill now but what is/was the problem with the 300/301 ????

So will we now have a repeat of the 300/301 situation?

A design problem is found, a firmware update is released and in 12 months a new camera the 380/381 comes out with yet another sensor to improve the problem.

This problem was discussed a few months ago and there has been no comment so far, I am sticking with my 301's for the moment as investing in the 371 seems to have more design flaws.

Noise and skew were the reported problems in NTSC land that prompted the 370/371.

I have never had problems with noise on my two 301's following the BBC settings and as for skew all CMOS cameras do it inc the RED but I follow film standards so it is also not a problem for me.

I agree with you Gary. Untill now I have not have any noise issues with my 301 and the skew issue are not there when you follow the rules for panning :)
