No video in VCR mode

Hello all

I'm working with a DVX100a (has about 40 hrs on it) and editing on FCP 4.5. I've been digitizing footage using the camera as the deck with no problem until now. When I push play, one of several things happen:

1. No picture and time code doesn't move but I can see the tape moving.
2. Time code starts but no picture. tape is moving.
3. If I turn it off and on, tap the camera, wave a magic wand and sacrifice a chicken, I'll get striped image. After strangling the cat, I may get a full image.

So, it seems that the video heads are not engaging. Has anyone encountered this probelm and if so how did you fix it? I'm running out of animals.

Sounds like dirty heads.

If a cleaning tape doesn't help within a few passes, you'll probabaly need the heads cleaned by hand (best let a pro, or at least someone who knows what they are dooing, do this).
