no sound w/ external mic

I finally got my hands on my brand new Rode NTG-2 mic today, excitedly plugged it in, changed the input to XLR in the menu, turned up the audio levels, and flipped the switch to Ch.1 - nothing. I switched on the phantom power - nothing. I tried an AA battery instead of phantom - nothing. I tried a different XLR cable - nothing. I tried both XLR inputs and about every conceivable combination of switches flipped - nada. I carefully read through the camera and mic manuals, and followed the instructions carefully.

I seem to remember a similar post on here, but couldn't find anything with the search. Any help would be much appreciated :cry:
 
I just had the microphone tested at a local music shop and they found it to be in working order, so now all signs point to the XLR ports on the camera. ARRRGGHH.

So far I've been really disappointed with my luck with this camera. I just got it back from the repair center because the firewire port was non-functional and now this. It doesn't help that I'm in the midst of shooting and don't have the time to just send it off for a month to get fixed.
 
Man that's too bad. Any chance you can hire a field recorder, get your project done and then send it in?
