No Live Monitoring?

I just got a GH2 and was under the impression that the camera does HDMI output while shooting. I cant seem to get the camera to output to HDMI EXCEPT in playback mode. Is this true? I've also tried a live output using the AV port with the same results.

I even have been chatting with a panasonic tech and he says the camera will not support live output... Huh?

can someone straighten me out here?

thanks, Erik

The GH2 most definitely outputs an HDMI signal "live", while in pause and when in recording. But the signal isn't the same when in pause as when recording; it's a lot more accurate when recording. Still isn't perfectly accurate, but it's closer.

Plugging in a monitor (or recorder) to the HDMI port will disable some features, such as 720p mode and ETC mode.

Try another monitor/TV. I saw the same thing with my GH2 attached to a ToteVision monitor but it works fine with other monitors.

Go into the menu and set the HDMI out for whatever resolution your monitor has. Sometimes the "auto" setting just doesn't work as the EDID handshake won't find a specific matching resolution in the monitor's lookup table and the camera will not output. Setting the output to something specific will force the monitor to match the camera output, if it can.
