No Go DVCProHD on Adobe CS3 Premiere Mac

I installed the production version of AE, Premiere, etc. and Raylight for the Mac in a MacPro.

Also installed the DVCProHD codecs.

Did a p2 scan with Raylight and it worked without issue.

But there is no way to create a custom preset for DVCProHD in Premiere 3 on a Mac.

Too bad that you can't create a custom preset for DVCProHD even though the codec is present in Premiere.

Although I was mostly interested in blu ray encoding for DVCProHD footage in Encore, I can't really even get a video sequence to Encocre

Yes there is a setting for desktop editing mode.

I chose the custom setting. Not familar with desktop editing mode.

And in desktop can't you set a frame size and frame rate equal to the frame size and frame rate of the clip?

If you can then you're almost done.

You might read the tutorial on Raylight, even though it is written for windows it has suggested settings for editing DVCPROHD in Premiere Pro.

See http://dvfilm.com/raylight/raylightTutorial2-4.htm

You might also try 960 x 720 w/PAR = 1.333 or 1280 x 1080 w/PAR=1.5 as appropriate,
that might get better results depending on how Premiere gets the frame from quicktime.
Look at fine diagonal lines to see how smooth they look. Unfortunately I have not had
time to play with it myself.

I will give this a try and report back.

I just couldn't find a way to set DVCProHD as the codec for any custom setting.

Also, I need to understand what "desktop editing mode means."

It means "anything goes" and you can edit (almost) any video. That is the mode used for editing MXF files in Premiere Pro Windows for example.
