No 480P dropdown (theory)

Alright. so today, I realized something that I feel could be very possible.

For monitors, the big problem with the T2i and 60D (And most DSLR's other than the 7D) is that you drop down to 480P as soon as you hit record. right? Right.

Well... what if you weren;t using the HDMI port? Think about it, there are tablet computers with upwards of eight hours of battery life with USB ports that run actual operating systems (Not the iPad. Something like this http://wetab.mobi/en/product-details or one of the moany other tablets in the pipeline)

So, if you were to install EOS Utility on a tablet using a thumb drive, and then connect your camera to the tablet, open up EOS utility and turn on the monitoring, could that work? Offloading clips could be shorter (If you have a shoulder mount, you could mount a 500 gig solid state drive on there and use that as your go-to folder for saving clips)

The only drawbacks I see for this are

1: the color would not be true. but this would be used for focus etc. the color could be checked through HDMI before hand

2: Depending on the tablet, res can change drastically

3: So many controls are disabled on the camera.

Thoughts?
