Hi

just went to bought a Zacuto recoil rig for my C100 MKII yesterday, and my reseller, Broadcastor in Paris, was so nice (he already offered my the VCT-U14 plate)

and he had some Marshall sunhoods left so he gave me one, and result is : it fits perfectly the Ninja Blade ! and is, really effective, in opposition to the s**** atomos sunhood.

ref is Marshall V-H50

While that was very nice of him to give it to you, other than being a bit deeper, I don't see how this is any better than the stock Atomos sun hood. The problem is that the bottom portion of the hood is still open, meaning you still have to put up with lots of glare and reflections when shooting in bright sunlight. I recently tried the RED 5" hood and while it cost way too much, I think $70.00 or $80.00, it works better than the stock Atomos or this Marshall could because it has a a full length bottom panel. I still have to seal up the top, bottom and sides with black gaffer tape to stop light leaks but overall, it works pretty well. I wish is were deeper as my eyesight is not good enough at close ranges to seal the RED hood around my eyes and be able to focus that close to judge focus, I need a hood that is deeper, about 10-12" from where it meets the screen, that would be ideal but doesn't exist as far as I know.

Still, the price was right for you. A good dealer is worth a lot.

Are you referring to the Hoodman HRT5 hood? (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1025572-REG/hoodman_hrt5_5_red_touch_screen.html)

I've once seen somebody mention using it with the Atomos Ninja Blade, but couldn't really figure out if that one really works.

I've really wanted to find a good four sided sunhood for the Blade for quite a some time now.

Hey Puredrifting,

I use "geezer glasses" from Walgreens, about +4 power for $11. Keep them on a librarian string around my neck. This way I can focus my old eyes around 4" from the end of my nose.

No you're wrong ! That's the point ! Maybe it doesn't show up clearly on the pictures, but the marshall sun hood HAS a bottom portion, not as deep as the top portion but still, it is very effective !

yes, that's the one. Outrageous price for some nylon cloth over plastic but that's what they cost ($70.00). Not perfect but leagues better than the useless stock Atomos hood. Those little threaded thing-a-ma-bobs that Atomos uses for their hood to mount are a PITA to use too. The Hoodman is decent to use and if I seal the parts where it meets with the Blade body, it's then light tight enough to actually focus in the brightest daylight.

Nedcam, yes, I use +1.75s right now, maybe I need more magnification?

control4userguy, when I want a hood that deep, I just tape on some Cinefoil to the Hoodman and it works, it's just a PITA for run & gun because the foil gets bent up all day as the camera is lugged around.

Coutard, I do see the little area of black now that you mention it. I still think the Hoodman might work bit better but then again, you didn't have to pay $70.00 for yours, so it's undoubtedly a better value. If it works for you, that's a win! I just have a hard time racking focus and following focus unless I can really see the image perfectly, my eyesight is not what it used to be.

I made my sunhood from cardboard and covered with black hockey tape...works like a charm. Cost about 25 cents and you can make it deep as you like. I made one for my C100 and works great too.

I have done the same, but generally, it self destructs after a day of run and gun. I am often grabbing the camera and chasing actors on and off of trains and buses, being crammed into tight spaces, etc. the hood gets thrashed and bent. Foil and or cardboard just don't last more than a day for me generally. Functionally they are fine but no longevity. The Hoodman is the best I have found yet.

That's odd...the one I made 2 years ago for my C100 still is in perfect shape. Same as the one I made for my Blade...like new and I use it a few times a week.
