iHart... I gotta' hand it to you... those are some pretty pictures!

There's so many good images in this thread... but the barn shot above cued me to post my own barn shot... a REAL barn-burner.

@tmroberts - I don't see what you are talking about. Looks fine to me.

@iHart - Nice stuff man. I wish I was better at photo manipulation. That stuff just impresses me.

@Matt - Dude, that shot just rocks. I totally dig it.

Here are a few I shot earlier today.

MattinSTL- I see the similarities in our barn shots.

Dan, maybe I am making things up. I am just very picky of my images. It seems a little hazy but it could just be me being paranoid, i was have difficulties shooting in that barn because of the huge contrast between the daylight coming in through the windows and the darkness within the barn.

The only thing I see is just a little OOF area on it, but that is normal. Everything that should be in focus is. The only thing you could do to fix that is shoot with a smaller aperture, like f/22 or something. You might need a tripod though. I think you've balanced the exposure perfectly. If you still thing somethings are too light and some are too dark you might try some light HDR.

While I'm not a huge fan of the way most people do HDR these days, a light application can help regain some of the latitude that is lost shooting with digital vs. some nice film stock.

Dan, nice clean lighting. In your third wide shot I noticed that the backdrop on the right gets cut off...like maybe the photo was cropped and you added some digital black. It blends fine on my calibrated monitor with the real backdrop but on my laptop you can see the distinction (especiall when looking at an obscure angle.) It might print well though....i hate working with blacks..it can be frustrating like that.

Yeah, I added a little space to that one. I haven't calibrated my monitor since the iMac was delivered. That kinda thing drives me nuts when I miss it though. I actually uploaded this one as a replacement for one that I did the same thing to. Looks like I'll fix this one too. :)

But I saw it when I got to work today too. I would also much rather work with white BG than with black.

Edit:
Updated the image again, although I edited it on a really crappy PC with a really crappy monitor. Let me know if you can still see the part that I missed burning. Thanks!

tmroberts (post #2820; page 282), I lived 7 years down in Glastonbury, CT. Your photo is GREAT! :) I truly miss the NE winters. I'm in NW Ohio these days ... lots of days ... years .... and it is very nice on the North Shore (Southern shore of Lake Erie). I don't know if you were out in that weather or inside something, looking out, but if in it, I can appreciate that. I love to go out in all kinds of weather and take photos and video. You get more shots than the average, fair weather shooter.

Anyway ... thanks for the reminder of some great times and for the great photo.

Larry

Thanks Larry, I really appreciate it. I'm still a student so anytime people notice my work it really means a lot to me. That picture was taken in Amesbury, MA, and i was most definitely braving the elements and outside shooting that. I love going out in the terrible weather to take pictures, it makes it look so much more dramatic...good thing i took out an insurance policy on my camera equipment!!!

wow. That is very nice too. I went for a long walk today and it is very cold so the snow just crunched under every step. That's what that picture reminds me of. Cold, crunchy snow. The lighting is very cool. I don't know if you did any photoshopping or whatever to it, but it looks very nice.

Good definition in the snow and the shaded side of the trees are good. Great shot.

wes i spent a good 20 minutes flipping through your site. i really liked your work. My favorite was the places gallery, you have some great shots in there. I think my favorite was the shot of what appeared to be a nice hotel lobby in all white. I loved them symmetry in that photo. keep it up!

I agree. Nice stuff Wes. I liked the Krog stuff and I even recognized some of your models. PM me with what area of town your are in. Maybe you can join us on some of our local group meetups.

Been shooting some NBHA stuff lately. Everything here was shot on a D300.

Here is some stuff I shot with Kodak E100VS on one of my cheapest Nikon cameras, an N65. Most shots were with a cheapo lens..the 50mm f/1.8, except the middle tree shot, which was done with an even cheaper lens..a 28-80 G somewhere in the middle of the zoom range.

The majority of these were just me trying to use up the roll.

I have a photo that is included in an iPhone app!

PS - I have no affiliation with Scmapp other than having a photo featured in their application and receive no compensation for promoting nor endorse their software. Although, it is cool that they decided to use one of my photos.

So I haven't posted on dvxuser in a while, but I recently did one out of what will probably be three or four photoshoots with a new client. A wonderful model named Ivana Brooks. Each shoot we're doing completely different stuff, so it should yield some great results. Here are two of my favorites from the other night. These are untouched or tuned in anyway, just straight off the camera and resized. The second one totally makes me think of some 60's ad for booze, I dig it.
