Nikon User Thread

Here is another from the get together!

Giz, love that standing bass shot, excelent! The dof is a little weird on this one right above me, but great textures.

Here's a couple of a guy I shot today. He wanted this kind of back alley look. I think the second one gets it, the first one is a little more, smoky room intellectual guy. I don't know. You know what, I think his face is a little green in the second one. Gotta fix that. Hmm.

Alveraz,
Love the new shots. Very sharp where it needs to be and I like the colors. They are dull but jumpy! Nice choice of white balance. What lens are you using?

About my picture, I agree about the DOF, it was portrait and the focusing screen is not all that great in the D70s. But the textures do feel right!

Thanks man. I used a 50mm 1.8. I used the cloudy white balance presetting.

I've since fixed both images. There was some unecessary noise and the colors are slightly off. The actor is pretty cool. he had this Brando meets Harvey Keitel thing going on. I tried to work with that.

Wow! I can only imagine what this would look like if you had done an HDR of it.

Not to take away, that is a great photo, but is has that HDR potential . . .

Couple clients I shot yesterday. Still working on her eyes and I need to clean up the guys face but anyway...

What are you going to do with the eyes? That's a great photo, although her skin seems just a little unnaturally smooth. But, maybe she's made that way. Beautiful woman, regardless.

Well, I did a very, very light softening mask but it's really the make-up artist. She's top notch and did a fab job. But I agree, I'll pull off the softner a little.

I had to add that catch light in there, I'm still not sold on it.

Thanks.

I wouldn't. It's my job (and yours) to notice something like that. The average person wouldn't see it. It's mostly her forehead, cheeckbones, and cheeks.

It looks great. As I have been told over and over by people who know a hell of a lot more than me, unless the client complains, or unless is glaringly obvious (which yours is not) than push it as far as you can, and keep "your" mouth shut about what you did.

Again, I noticed because I do it for a living. But it's not a bad job at all, and it better than most of the touch up work from PS I have seen.

I'm still interested to know what you plan on doing to her eyes. That will be fun to see. (blending modes anyone?)

EDIT: I just had my wife (who is an amature photography enthusiast, and who has seen my work for years) look at it, and I asked her, "What if anything looks good, bad, right or wrong with this photo? She said that the woman's skin tone color on her chest and neck did not match the face (and with makeup, why would it), but she said that was the only thing she could see.

So, your work stands solid.

Great job.
