I am just wondering if anyone using Nikon to Canon adapters. I have 50mm 1.2 Nikon, all manual excellent lens and I am trying to find out what kind results to expect on Canon 5DMII. Can anyone suggest the type of adapter to use. There are a lot of cheap adapters made in China on Ebay, but I would like to hear from the forum.

Thanks.

Like morgan_moore - I have both £100 Novoflex and a cheap ebay £20 model.

Both work fine, but the Novoflex looks to be better made.

I also have the Nikon 50mm f/1.2 which I use on the 5DII.

**CAUTION**

On the Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI-s there is tab that sticks out from the rear (see photo below - upper left) - this will catch on the 5DII's mirror and may damage the mirror - before mounting the lens you need to cut this tab off.

Hi, I'm in Paris, I will rent the 5d next week for a job and after the launch of the nikon 700x, I will chose between one of them...

I have many nikon AIS lenses:
16mm 2.8
24mm 2
35mm 1.4
50mm 1.2
85mm 1.4
135mm1.4
300mm2.8

How to cut this off?

Woaw!!!!

so, I cut the whole piece.

thank you

You can cut it all off, or just the part that is higher than the rear of the lens.

It serves no purpose on the 5DII - or any modern camera, it's main function is to protect the lens if you rest it on it's back on a table.

Mask !!!

Do a good job at masking the cutting area, be very clean and precise, like a surgeon, you do not want small metal flakes to end up in the lens, then inside your 5DII !!

Work slowly and carefully, do not blow the metal 'dust' away, carefully clean.

Oddly enough I have been using the 50mm 1.2 AIS (which has the tab) for months now but it doesn't touch the mirror at all. I haven't bothered to cut it off. Where does this rumor come from?

I've heard someone mention an adapter that works with Nikon AF-S lenses and aperture control.
Since some Canon shooters are using the Nikon 14-24 f2.8, there has to be one.
Who makes it?

is there any rotational movement at all with the novaflex on the body or the lens? I mean even a tiny amount. No adapter I've bought fits perfectly and I need something rock solid for anamorphic lenses, if I have to fork out the money I will. Does that cheapie from the UK supplier fit as well as the novaflex? And is the novaflex easy to get off? because I won't be buying more than one for that money.

Me !

The tab on the back of my 1.2 not only would measurably hit the mirror, but is stopped me from even mounting the lens on the 5DII (the tab hit the bottom of the inside of the square area within the mount.

Others have had the same experience.

The Novoflex does indeed have rotational play (I have 4 various adaptors and they all have some rotational play).

I have literally just (after reading your post) measured it - stick your thumb nail against the lens, it has a little less than 1mm rotational play.

This tends not to bother me in the least - as odd as it sounds you do not really notice it after a while, in fact I doubt it would even meaningfully impact on anamorphic alignment - less so perception.

What I mean by this is that even if there is a some movement during a focus - for instance - you cannot expect your audience to perceive this very slight change in the angle of amorphicity - even if done quickly.

I don't get why even the german engineered adapter has play, do canon lenses have 1mm play? I'm thinking of maybe some kind of rubber gasket solution

That would work, the mechanics (of the problem) are trivial - I would stick a bit of camera tape over the join if it were an issue - but it really is not, it's the sort of thing that you need to play around with to realise how little it impacts on anything.

IMO play is very important if you move the camera and the lens wobbles

Personally I thing the srbgriturn are better than the novoflex

mine are 'padded' with small amounts of tape (gaffa)
