I am just trying to chop off some footage recorded by mistake leaving the camera on.
I am working on windows PC
Tried TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Renderer 4 but no luck. (It doesn't save in mov and it transcodes the audio).
I also tried ffmpeg to demux the file and remux it into .mov but it was not playable

SOLVED: Didn't know QTpro could edit renderlessly .MOV files from my D4, D800 ! Wow
QTplayer-->edit-->trim to selection-->Save as self-contained movie.
Judging by its lightning speed, it certainly didn't recompress

MPEG Streamclip is a must-have for this kind of thing, since it can batch process - and it's free. Yep, it renders, but when you have a full day of trips to trim, it's killer. And you can output to ProRes, etc.
