Nikon D90 with c-mount lens

Hi

I've just bought a c-mount lens which is bell & howell lumax 25mm f1.9 to mount on my Nikon D90.
But it seems I'm not getting any clear image, everything is out of focus except for things in extreme close-up.
Is there something wrong about what I'm doing? I've also had it mounted on my GH1 and it looked fine.

thnx in advance!

Mmm, I didn't know there was a C-mount to Nikon mount lens adapter available. I once used C-mount lenses on my GH1, though not as often as I would like because my particular adapter was very stiff when getting it off the camera. You can use them on the GH1 because the camera has a relatively short lens register distance. There would be a lot of vignetting using a C-mount lens on an APS-C size sensor and I don't think a C-mount would work normally on a Nikon because of the hugely different lens register distances:

C-mount distance = 17.526 mm.
Panasonic MFT distance = 19.2 mm.
Nikon mount distance = 46.5 mm.

This is why there's so many Nikon-to-EOS adapters, but not vice versa - Canon's lens mount to film plane distance allows for that extra millimeter or so to attach a Nikon lens.

If a lens is only functioning as a closeup lens, it means it needs to be closer to the film plane. That's why extension tubes work for closeups.

Mmm That's unfortunate that I can't use this lens on my Nikon DSLR. Are there c-mount lenses or any old good lenses that are usable on Nikon DSLR?

old Nikon glass? I tend to buy Nikon glass for this reason. It will work on my gh2's and gh1. And on my Nikon still cameras. I think you can fit old retina reflex glass on a Nikon with an adapter. You can use FD but I think it needs an adapter with a lens in it to refocus to the film plane.

Buying Nikon mount stuff will allow you to adapt it to canon as well with a cheap adapter.

How about non-Nikon old lenses? like angenieux, vivtar, switar, etc etc? Have you or anyone had an opportunity to use them?

From your post I assume you are talking about old c mount angineuxs etc. You can't put a Cmount lens inside the nikon body unless you get rid of the mirror and shove it in there. Throw some caulk around it and call it a day. (Kidding!)

Cmounts on DSLRS (with mirrors) don't work.

If the lens was made to work on mount that was longer than 46.5mm it would be possible to make a mount to get it to work. The lenses you are suggesting again are going to need to be used on a camera that doesn't have a mirror. They won't focus to infinity and turn into macro lenses as you move them away from the lens register distance. Hence how a macro bellows works etc.

mmm I see... >< then I guess I'll have to go do with my GH1.

Thank you for your comments! I appreciate it a lot!
