The next thing we need is a camera that does all of the above, as well as writing our script, casting the actors, lining up a distribution deal, and finally editing and scoring the film for us.

Okay,
So I've been very impressed with the results of lossfest and I'm looking at investion in some new equipment.
Here is what I'm looking at: Money IS a factor, and as much as the Scarlet would be awesome, it would mean an entirely new computer and an upgrade to CS4... both of which are out of the budget... which is about $2000 at this point.
I've got a DVX100b and I'd like to either add a 35mm adapter to it, or buy an SLR like the d90 or the new GH1 from panasonic.
So what do you think?
I'm looking to be making shorts and perhaps even feature length, and I'm editing with premiere cs2 and AE.
*Sorry, I put HD1 in the poll, but I meant the GH1.
I can make do with the DVX for now... its a great camera, so the 4th option would be to wait a bit and see if the Scarlet comes down in price over the next year and upgrade my other hardware then...
Any input would be great.
Where's the fun in that?
Hey, there is still the big red carpet premiere.
I forgot to add to the list of demands: the camera also needs to hook up its owner with a hot actress like Charlize Theron, Monica Bellucci, Jessica Alba, etc... that would add at least a $1K value to the MSRP.
I'd buy a D90 just for the low light performance. If this is just for web or DVD its quality is good enough for indies. It's performance would save you a tone on lighting gear that you would have to put down for a 35mm adapter. You could light you film for a home depot if you did it right. You can get shots quickly us 35mm adapter users need 5k of light to get.
5th option.. 5dm2 5dm2 5dm2 5dm2 5dm2
Okay so when is this 5DM2 comming out?
You can go to nikonrumors.com but there is really no firm evidence of release dates ,price and specs on the D400 and D800. But it's likely they will both be released this year with HD capabilities. They'd probably have similar pricing to the D300 and D700. I'm not that excited about the GH1's narrower feild of view and deeper depth of field. There are also rumors of a canon rebel coming out soon to compete with the D90. You should probably wait for the rebel or the D400 which would both be in your price range. And if we're lucky Nikon might respond with a D90 firmware update. 35mm adapters are dead like the dodo. This is the year of the HDSLR and there will probably be at least half a dozen of them by the end of it.Sorry, its early and I replied before looking around. I was in the mode of "what esle is comming out?" and it didn't even register that the 5dm2 was already out.
The trouble is, that its running in the price area of the Scarlet, and I think that's still a bit out of my range.
I notice the poll is putting the d90 in the lead as the choice but there isn't a lot of discussion as to why.
Basically I wan't to get the best equipment possible, and I'm a little worried that if I go the d90 route, I'll be looking back in a year wishing I had waited. d400? Has there been any real talk of this? Price?
This might sound silly and it seems like a lot of people here upgrade gear every other monthbut I'm looking to get a setup that I'll be able to work with for some time into the future.
the g1's dof is sooooo deep, like omg. all taken with manual lens.
