Nikon D750

Hi Bill:

DX (16 x 24mm): 3,936 x 2,624 (L, 10MP), 2,944 x 1,968 (M, 6MP) or 1,968 x 1,312 (S, 2.6MP).

(if snapped during movie live view these are cropped to 16:9: 3,936 × 2,224 (L), 2,944 × 1,664 (M) or 1,968 × 1,112 (S).)

Ahh, got it. Hopefully someone who can do good tests will post one this weekend, I mean the D750 has been out for almost four days now! (jk)

I was thinking of sending a message on Vimeo to the Norwegian guy who shot the lowlight clip asking for a decent test but he only posted 3 videos in last 4 years... Then in Norway there's only about 5 million people while in the US you are a lot more, so I hope somebody will come up with a decent video

In Italy the camera is not available yet, at least not at the shop where I could test it.

First video from Eoshd. He has also his impression that are very positive on his website. I would have prefered some more static shot and deeper dof at least some shot to see sharpness and 24/25p.

Thanks for posting the link, very helpful. Still want to see Philip Bloom or Dave Dugdale put it through it's paces but this is a start. I thought the footage overall had a very nice look. I agree about the deeper DOF too, it looks like it is a 50mm 1.4 wide open most of the time, a look I find obnoxious for what he was shooting. Lenses look their best in the mid range, seeing some F5.6-F8 footage would have been great, although maybe some of those wider shots are more in that range? They mostly look really shallow though.

Any idea if the D750 passes audio through the HDMI out, want to dual record to the Ninja and internally.

The Nikon D7100 passes audio through the HDMI, I think it is very likely that the D750 also does so, but I don't think you can record internally and externally at the same time on the D7100.

I downloaded the D750 manual and read it last night and I have to say, I am out. I shoot a lot of long interviews and was looking forward to pairing the D750 with the Ninja Blade to do so until I read in the manual that during video shooting, the camera can only shoot a maximum of 20 minutes in 1080 23.98 mode and that at the end of the 20 minute take, there will be a :30 countdown warning and once the take ends, the mirror will come back down and output to the Ninja would presumably cease. I also saw that there is a warning for sensor overheating and that it may come on during long takes. If it does, power the camera down and let it cool off.

Does not sound practical to shoot 90 minute interviews. I am sad, I was really close to buying the D750 but I will have to spend twice as much to get the C100, a video camera.

For internal recording there is always a limit of 4gb files or 29minutes of footage because of tax regulations in the EU. The external recording through HDMI should not have this limitation and I never had problems with Nikon cameras overheating. But the battery on a D750 probably only lasts for about 60 minutes of recording anyway.

With the D750 that only happens if the you are recording to the SD card, if the camera is connected to an external device it will not switch off unless you have the battery saving standby option active. Overheating on the D7100 is a non issue if you are recording to and HDMI device, then of course battery life is a consideration.

For my work, unfortunately, those are considerations. I may pickup a D750 to experiment with, I think the pictures are beautiful but our work has seemed to outgrow the DSLR limitations of no NDs, no usable internal audio, lousy ergonomics, etc. The fact that the D750 won't trigger recording on the Ninja and no tc pass through sealed the deal. The C100, while far from perfect, will serve our clients needs much better. Wish Nikon would introduce a digital cinema camera to compete with the C100.
