Hallo guys,

i opted to Go for d7100 kit package instead of d7200. Now i don't know what kit lenses should i choose like all around lens, 18-105 or 18-140? I 'd use it even in my steadicam memerli thank you so much

From what I've seen the 18-140 is a significantly better lens than the 18-105. I think the 18-140 would be good for video and from the images I've seen a decent but not pro level still lens.

Jeff what are good quality lenses you'd recomend for the d7100?

If you're buying the kit lens... I'll assume you're on a budget for now?

My all-time favorite budget picks:

AIS 28mm 2.8 (not AI, not AF, just the AIS). About $300 used. Great "normal" for APS-C. A stellar, classic, kickass lens.

Any 50mm 1.8 can be found for under $100. Or buy an old film body with lens for under $50 if you shop around. Kind of a no-brainer, but FOV of about 70mm isn't that useful to me. Not long enough for telephoto, too long for normal. Just rarely in love with the framing and perspective. A low-mojo lens, but dirt cheap.

The 35-70 2.8 AF is a pro-level zoom, shoots like 1:1 macro and is legendary. But can suffer from bad veiling flare, so a hood and flare control is absolutely a must. $300ish and up.

The 28-70 2.8 is a greatness-level pro lens, it's massive though. $1000-$1500, but very useful. 24-70 is sweet but pricier - but something in that range could be on your camera 90% of the time.

The Series-E 100mm 2.8 is a steal for $100. The 105mm Nikkor is a legend, but much more expensive. The 100 can be beautiful for the money. Other Series-E glass is so-so to bad. The Series E zoom is loved my many, but I wouldn't consider anything slower than 2.8. The series-E 28mm 2.8 is cheap but pretty awful until F5.6 or so.

The 85mm 1.8 AF - I find this to be just magical for people, interviews, etc. I'll move a lot of furniture to get this on my camera. $300ish used.

An old push-pull 80-200 2.8 AF zoom can be found these days for $300 and up for beat-up copies - but it's a tough, all-steel lens. Mojo for days, weeks and months. Needs a decent lens support (huge and heavy) and steady tripod at the long end. Insane compression, nice at 2.8, very sharp at F4, great color. Push-pull can make it problematic with FF, you'll be moving gears or the unit. Remember, this was a top of the line lens back in the day.

I've used both of them and they're both good.

I personally own the tokina, but a friend has the 10-20 that I've used a bunch.

The sigma has a ton more zoom range and that is really nice. It also has the ability to focus really close.

The tokina is faster and I think has a better build quality.

The other option is the new tokina 11-20mm 2.8'

If a kit lens only adds $100 or so to the body cost - get it. I've found they really improve resale value, to sell the camera as a complete set when it's upgrade time!

The lens I have in my d7100 bag is the nikon 35mm 1.8g a Nikkor 50mm 2.0 Ais and a nikkor 24mm 2.8 AIS. My next lens will be a 35 85 and 28mm cines from Rokinon. I shoot lots of video with mines though not many pics

Should i wait for NAB for any surprise from NIKON?
Relly where can i see your videos?
happy Easter

I'd skip the kit lens and get Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 + Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 + Nikon 50mm f/1.8D + 85mm f/1.8D + Vivitar 135mm f/2.8 (Vivitar saves you in a pinch at a very cheap cost until you get a telezoom f/2.8 zoom, such as a Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 or Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D)

I will share, that i love the Sigma 18-35 on my d7100, it also works great on my G7w/ metabones. stellar lens. the Nikon D series lenses are great for the price. you can also use all the no Ai/Ais lenses as well.
