Nikon D7000 Hot Pixels

Nikon really really really needs to provide it's customers with a software tool to remap errant pixels. One would think they would rather have the end user do such simple maintenance procedures. In the case of the D7000 it's just absurd how many units they shipped with bad pixel issues (and they know it).

I don't think you can know this yet because the new firmware is not out for the D7000. If you roommate returned a D700, well that's a different camera. I've had issues with Nikon repair before - a few times I've had to bring things back for a second look, so it's equally possible that Nikon messed up the repair of the D700.

Don't condemn the as yet nonexistent firmware for the D7000 because of this. At least not yet.

For crying out loud! The firmware is not even out and somebody is saying that it doesn't work because it didn't work on a whole different camera? Really, the stuff you read around here is just unbelievable.

It was a typo on my part. He returned the D7000 and on the slip it said they updated the firmware so I "ASSUMED" it was the new firmware. Yes I am fully aware it is not out yet, however there were a number of people who recieved the 5D 24p firmware before the rest of us when they sent in their 5D for service. Again, my mistake.

I am glad to be done with the D7000, as much as I miss it sometimes. Ironically, I got a 60D that has one hot pixel at higher iso's. I missed the return period, but after 6+ pixels on the D7000, I am slightly less zealous about hot pixels, than I would have been. Also, it is not as bright and visible as the Nikon hot pixels were. http://vimeo.com/17450671 showing hot pixel in 60D footage. I heard a few weeks ago, that Nikon had corrected the issue, but that was from a camera salesman. I look forward to Nikon when they fix they're issues. In the meantime I have learned to work with and enjoy Canons. Either way the Japanese are happy(Nikon,Canon,Panasonic).

Yeah, I recently picked up a D7000 that had 8 hot pixels starting at ISO1000. But I exchanged it with a new one the store was able to get in a couple weeks later. The new one has no hot pixels and I love it to death. The D7000 is really an awesome camera!

That's awesome. Please keep us updated if you start developing any hot pixels. thanks

Just wanna let you know guys that Nikon released firmware update.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Bright spots were sometimes noticeable with movie recording of especially dark scenes or subjects. Occurrence of this issue has been reduced.
*After the firmware is upgraded, bright spots may be visible in the monitor while the camera is autofocusing with the shutter-release button pressed halfway in live view mode. However, these bright spots are not recorded with still images and movies and are not visible in the monitor while the camera is autofocusing during movie recording.

the mapping of stuck pixels was probably not active in video mode, i assume you didn't see them in stills right? another reminder that the video mode is still just an added gimmick to the live view feature.

Good deal. Nikon got right on this one!! But it is a awesome camera from what I've seen so I guess they need to get this problem fixed right away.
THANK YOU NIKON!
My hot pixels started at ISO 640-800 with a total of 8 green/red ones at higher isos.
Applied the firmware update, now I have NONE!

Mine came with two or three hot pixels at high iso's - didn't really bother me. The firmware update fixed the issue and I'm loving the camera.

That's fantastic. Had they fixed it earlier, I wouldn't have needed to switch to canon, but now that I have switched, I have come to really like canon. I have thought about switching back, but I am tired of the game, and just been too busy to worry about it.

Well, I hope Canon does this pixel mapping update too, because I have one at high ISO's.

Does anybody still have hot pixels in the D7000 after the firmware update? If Nikon really has implemented a hot-pixel fix, that puts them back in the running.

Did you try still image with long exposure at 15 seconds and ISO1600 after the firmware update?

I have about 20 hot pixels at ISO200 15sec shot of the lens cap, I notice them more at higher ISO that start to get their colors more around ISO800

My friend got hot pixel too at long exposure and high ISO. Now try the firmware update and try long exposure again. :)

Sadly I got the camera 9 days ago and loaded the update within the first hour of having it. So these results are with the update. Low ISO hot pixels with longer exposures.
