Nikon D600 affordable full frame DSLR

Yeah the vimeo version looked much better even though it's only 720P. Thanks for posting it. I'm thinking this and a C100 would be a great match to use.

This seems to have a better overall look to the Sony a99. All Sony cameras seem to have a video look to me. It must be the processing.

Don't know if the vimeo link embeds or not if else here the link https://vimeo.com/49395253

720p only, but it looks much better than the youtube one in term of detail. I hope we see some 1080p, but it is still encouraging.

Looks great.

I think this camera has some nice mojo. Very cinematic.

I didn't see any of the usual DSLR artifacts like moire or aliasing, so even if it has those in minor ways, to me the overall image looks good. And then if the output from the HDMI is good, a ninja recorder will beef this thing up nicely. Now we just need to see if the GH3 is a reality or not. I'm liking this D600, the BMC, and the spec rumors at least for the GH3. Just need more footage to examine from all the new cameras.

I suppose no 1080 60p, just 720 is kind of a bummer for some people, but I could live with 720 60p.

Have in mind that there were a lot of time lapses that probably weren't shot with the video function. So from them one can deduce rather the photographic characteristics.

I was thinking the same thing. The time lapses looked nice, but there were plenty of regular video shots that looked great to me.

Also notice how/where they shot the video. Out in the middle of a snowy or desert landscape without any high detail blowing trees, without any man made structures like brick buildings or people wearing striped shirts. Most shots with high detail outside of the time lapse stuff is out of focus in the background. There are only few shots where you see waves or long grass.

A bit like the first D4 promo vid which looked great but the camera turned out to be a big disappointment with soft and mushy full frame video. I hope most people here are smart enough not to go out and buy any camera until they know where it falls down. Even some of the most expensive cameras have their flaws.

This is what I saw. Some aliasing (have to look for it) and I saw moire once in one guy shoulder strap when they are both looking at the camera and another time, very faint moire in the water ripples at 3.45. But with these clothes there could have been a lot more, I think. Very detailed and gorgeous dynamic range. Some rough shots in the car etc that seems to handle rolling shutter well. There is one place when the guy is in silhouette with a very gradual fade and no real banding. It has

So the jury is still out, high detail moving scene I think will be handled quite well because of the uncompressed hdmi out. The big question is will be with brick wall and power line for me. If it is really bothersome, we will surely see a mosaic filter for it. They just released a D800 version. The D4 images were soft from day one, but less moire/aliasing than D800 a bit like 5dmark 3, which is not the case of this one. It might be more akin to the detailed but alias/moire D800 than the cleaner but lower rez D4.

Anyone know if the Nikon WU-1b wireless unit can activate the video record function remotely?

I am a little more than disappointed with the D600 ,No 1080p firstly also lacking in other areas, It seem for now i am leaning to the Sony a99

Look at listed spec's it has 1080 30p & 24p

I have a lot of hope for this camera and really want to see what people do with it. I owned a D7000 for a short time and was just revieiwng some of the footage from it last night. It looked great. No matter what the other shortcomings of that particular camera were, the footage did look great.

But let's face some cold hard facts here folks:

1. If you had the budget to shoot a feature film where every detail had to be perfect and you suspected that the audience would see moire and aliasing in the background, then you probably won't be shooting with any camera in the ballpark of less than $10k.

2. Does anybody really care, even if they notice little problems, if the story and acting and camera work are good, it's not like people are going to ask for their money back. If you've done your job no one will care that the waves in the background have some aliasing or that the brick building in the background is a little janky.

I've shot plenty of corporate videos where guys have walked in with pin stripe shirts even though we sent them a dress code ahead of time. You work around it by keeping a solid color blazer on hand. You avoid moving the camera or lights in shots where there a objects that might distort or you pick different shots.

A camera like this would be a great for a serious hobbyist or a low rent pro. Or even as a backup camera to a D800 or D4. It's definitely aimed more at stills than video, but at least Nikon is starting to pay attention to video going forward.

Gary for my work 50P or even 60P is important ,25p,30p and 24p are fine to get a good slow mow you need more frames, At least Nikon has better options than the Canon these days camera wize and it took them( Nikon a while to catch up. But both Nikon and Canon still do not want to give us 1920x1080 50p/60p Where as Panasonic and Sony have given this as a option.

But the 60p in the Nikon D800 is almost unusable because of the aliaising. It's pretty much Canon 7d level. Horrible.

The 5d mark III actually has usable 720p. So how come you claim Nikon has the better options?

Well, it could have. This sensor can do 1080p60, as seen on the A99. Nikon leaving it out and giving you only 720p60 can mean two things: their processor can't cope with 1080p60, or they want to protect the D800, which doesn't have this (probably because the sensor can't be read fast enough). None of those possible reasons looks good to me.
