The Nikon D5000 replacement may be out this spring according to rumors. Could it be the 550D/T2i killer?

If your main use for the camera will be video then judging by Nikon's efforts over the past 2 years my guess would be no. If you are wanting a good relatively cheap stills body & don't really care for video then I'd still opt for the D90 since you can pick one up for $600 - $650 & it takes fantastic stills for that kinda cash.

It wont be ,550d has Magic Lantern firmware with many ISO's unlocked ,manual audio gain and many more features.

True, the magic lantern does beef up the T2i. Personally, I do not see any reason to upgrade until they come out with better codecs and time code. And it doesn't look like any manufacturers will do that the next year in this price bracket.
