Nikon D4 Firmware Update

It sounds like a miracle, but if that's true, I'm buying a D4 again tonight.

+1. I was just about to get a D800.

It was pretty devastating seeing how poor the D4 FX video was, I was hopeful it was going to be a cine beast.

Yeah that was my case too - as I'm a low-light whore - so i got the D800 last June. If this pans out I'll have seriously consider it.

The guy who posted on NR pasted the same post @ dpreview, it was his 1st post there so don't take it as gospel. If Nikon improved the video output it seems a bit strange that they haven't mention it.

The D5200 and D7100 appear to process the sensor data differently to the other Nikons (hence no aliasing or moire) so it is conceivable that Nikon might have tweaked the firmware in the FX cameras to output video like the DX bodies.
Eat lead :kali: Canon.

It does look better in FX mode, closer to 2.7, DX still looks softer.
2.7 still the best for resolution..

will try to do a comparative test some time soon, with D800e and D5200.
I looked a bit more. Do not really see significant improvement, checked out together with my D5200, they look pretty equal, a bit of disapointment.. (GH2 still the king of resolution) will load originals soon..

DO YOUR OWN TESTS, ALWAYS

I will post some, sorry for mixing up, my bad, FX (full frame) looks better than DX (crop, which is still soft)

In Philip Blooms test the D4 looked crap compared to the 5D and the D800 was sharper than the 5D. The D5200 is slightly sharper than the 5D so if the D4 is now comparable to the D5200 then that's a big improvement. I'm wondering if there's been a D800 resolution boost and if there's any change to the aliasing and moire on the D800 and D4. For me the D5200 sits right on the resolution borderline but I'd like just a little bit more resolution to compensate for the softness of my Iscoramas.

When I was playing with my D800 last night I didn't immediately notice any particular improvements on the video end - except for an overall noticeably better white balance in mixed lighting. There is no mention of any image upgrading in the D800 release - and would they really 'flash' the whole FX line-up with IQ boost like that and not mention?

FX has ALWAYS looked better than DX on the D4. On the original D4, the CX (2.7 crop) looked a bit better than FX, and both looked a lot better than DX.
Oh ya, thats right. Looks like I misunderstood. I thought that the people were talking about FX being as good as CX which is why I was so excited.
