Nikon choice, wait or not to wait?

Good comments from ken, though Af for video has never been of interest to me... your shooting style may make it a meaningless point or it may be important to you. (I tend to use real broadcast "video" camera for events and run & gun anyway, just having switchable ND and real focus peaking means I get every shot I want... but I still don't use AF... just stick a focus controller on the front rig handle for handheld. YMMV, especially if you can't afford a DSLR and a "video" rig of course. But I've found DSLRs for fast paced events makes it tougher to get every shot.)

I'm in a similar boat, about to pull the trigger on a D7100, but I'm gonna wait until after PhotoKina to see whats revealed. Ideally i want a D7100 form factor with a flip out screen. the 5300 feels to small in my hands.

The 7100 is one of the great Nikon bodies. Everything really came together in this one, from the D70/80 era, the D90 and then the 7000, this feels like the final chapter in an evolution (and I have film bodies going back to the 60's & 70's).

If it had 60p @ 1080, it would be my last compressed (or at least non-prores) camera. And it shoots fantastic stills.

I really have a hard time suggesting anyone look for a used D7000 - the 7100 was a big leap for both stills and video, worth every penny.

Still-only guys have some complaints about the buffer and AF setup, but for $1k, it's a dynamite body. Curious to see what & when with the 7200 though.

I bought a refurbished D7100 for $800 shipped from Adorama about 7 weeks ago.

Used D7100 bodies are selling in the $750 range now. They have come down quite a bit.

I was hearing rumors about a D7200 about 2 months ago. Now all that we are hearing about is a full frame "action" camera I instead, the D750.

I have both (D7K has the hack and the 24 fps at 60 mby is very good). You can get a refurb D7k for in the $550 to 600 range if you shop, and $750 for a D7100 is pretty amazing. For video the D7100 is by far the best choice, especially with clean HDMI out. I'll probably waiting until I can get a 4K D7XXX body to upgrade, but I think the D7100 would keep me happy for a long time. The 1.3 crop is fantastic for wildlife, and you can use the 720P if you need slow motion.

I posted this a couple weeks back in another thread, but for 7100 & 5300 fans, here was a quickie project using both bodies. After years of Canon, I'm pretty smitten with the Nikon look (though I kinda washed it out in this project).

Thanks, I really wanted to get out in the country with the 7100, I found a bunch of derelict towns with google street view - we had a complete blast and ran into some really crazy people.

You'll get nothing here but the same rumors available everywhere. 2 months ago everyone insisted we'd have the D7200 announced by the end of July. Then it's the D9300 at Photokina, now rumor-people say it's a full frame "action camera". We should see something new at Photokina, my only question is "has the GH4 had any effect on Nikon's approach to video". Doubt it but we should know soon.

Having bought the D7100 late last year, I'm not buying anything till next year, but I wonder if the D7200 (or the camera's that is the answer to the new Canon DX camera) will have 4K. I really, really like the D750 but the lack of 4K makes me think that the next DX (mirror or new mirrors) camera from Nikon will have 4K. I don't think 60 1080P will be enough of a change in the D7100. Saving my pennies and wanting that one last camera for 6 or 7 years. BTW the 7100 IMHO is a great video camera for wildlife and "B" roll scenic stuff.
