Nikon 850 w/ 4K!

Nikon Rumors is speculating that the D850 sensor was not made by Sony. A teardown didn't produce any conclusive evidence. However, there's an earnings report by TowerJazz (an Israeli based sensor company with fabs in Israel and the US that is/was 49% co-owned by Panasonic) that it is working with a leading DSLR manufacturer on the next generation of sensors. The assumption is that the "leading DSLR manufacturer" isn't Canon. And if it isn't Canon, then it's got to be Nikon. And, if it's Nikon, then Nikon is weaning itself off the Sony sensor dependency. Which could mean that its various feature crippling will be ... well, less crippling.

Good, it's about time...cut the ball-and-chain and make gear again that people once loved you for.

A cinema camera's next.
