Nikkor 28-70mm f2.8

(With a couple of my other Duclos lenses, for comparison)

Left-to-right:

1) Nikon AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 - Duclos cine-modded
2) Nikon AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8 - Duclos cine-modded (discussed in this thread)
3) Nikon AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8 - Duclos cine-modded
4) Duclos 11-16mm T2.8 Tokina rebuild
5) Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 - Duclos cine-modded
wow. love your collection.

Wow - that appears to be an EXACT clone of the Redrock - other than:

1) The plastic thumbscrews look hollow, and like they're made of really cheap plastic

2) The support bracket itself isn't padded with rubber the way the Redrock is; you're just asking for your lens to be scratched up.

Stephen, Shooter, mkfotos, Logan - Thanks for your input.

I recently spoke to someone who uses this lens on a AF100 and they do not use support. This is my preference. Is it safe?

The 28-70 is the only one that suits my style for shooting heads which is nearly all of what I use the AF-100 for. It works well and I also was lucky with a careful ebay buy.
I use the Voigtlander adapter and no support. Perhaps it is a bit risky and eventually I'll add support when I figure out a rig. Man THAT is a complicated decision...
Anyway, the Voigtlander seems VERY sturdy so I'd consider that if you want to try the no support route.

I'm seeing a lot of praise for the 28-70, but not much for the 24-70 g series... I would think the parfocal element would allow you to use the lens as a zoom in addition to a variable prime...

A friend in the ASC has both of these Nikkors.

He prefers the 24-70 as it's sharper, wider, & most importantly parfocal, but many users like the older lenses due to it's aperture ring.

YMMV....but I'll take the aperture ring over an imperceptable increase in sharpness any day (esp. at 1080p, and when corner sharpness isn't even critical on an AF100 or S35 frame) - and esp. when the 28-70 is SO durned sharp to begin with...
