nightmare clip...

Re: nightmare clip...

dude...I love your style...keep us posted

Thanks man. I'm actually trying to find the particular style for this peice.

Any milwaukee actors want to tackle some cliche horror movie rolls? I've already cast everyone I know that can act. Time to start posting flyers down at the UWM campus.

Re: nightmare clip...

cool. lookin good.

i think some parts feel a little too "soft", like there is too much diffusion...like the shots in the beging with the girl on the floor, also some of the hand stuff, and the shot in the bathroom with the kid, seems too warm and fuzzy...

i totaly dig the out of focus stuff and the silhouettes...looks great man!

hmm....also, your "flashes" are not only flashing the image, but the letterbox as well...also your letterbox is changing size...ever so slightly, but its still happening, and people will notice that, even if they dont "know" it. also alot of your effects are interacting with your letterbox...which to me makes the whole thing feel a little low end, when in fact you have a good looking thing...

if anything i would fix the letterbox problems you are having.

peace dude! looks sweet otherwise!

Just curious if I was the only one with that problem.[/quote]

No, I couldn't control click the .mov version either. However, I did manage to cut and paste the url into a new window and load it that way. Quicktime Pro then lets me save the movie onto disk.

Re: nightmare clip...

I like this version better than your last post of this film. This one feels more tense. The quick cuts pushes things along before I've had a chance to settle into the current shot. I like it. It is quite diffused, though I just put it down to you going for the dreamy effect. You did say nightmare clip in the title afterall. Although, I find ghosts scarier if they look like characters who aren't ghosts. It's like The Thing. I get scared 'cos I don't know where to look, and I have to keep guessing.

Quite the effective teaser. Good stuff.

I think your right, It's an unfortunate result of trying to mix VX and DVX footage. If I convert the VX footage to a 24p time line, it looses resolution and gets "fuzzy". The solution is to make everything in the flashback/dream sequence a little fuzzy. Also, since non of this taks place in "reality" I'm not overly concerned with a diffused look. I have, however, stopped shooting this project with the VX.

And , yeah, I haven't rendered anything as a widescreen project yet, so flashes and halos will bleed into the frame for now. Didn't notice the aspect ratio change though. Good eye. Thanks!

One of my all time favorites! The Thing is truley a work of art. I find when dealing with ghosts though, it's more unsettling when there is something just a little off, just not right. Spooks me out. After we shoot the actual reveal of what's inside the house, (not just a dream sequence/flashback) it will be much more viceral and "real" as opposed to rather burry and diffused.

Thanks for all the great comments and suggestions. This forum is a goldmine of information!

Alrighty...am I the only person who hates this new wave of Japanese Horror? Single moms and ugly short girls dont scare me.

Other than that rant, cool visuals, the only thing that bugged me was when that girl was murdered at the beggining blood wouldnt have came out her mouth. You spit up blood usually when a lung is punctured.

dang I was just typing this as Urine was posting, lol...so he's not the only one feeling this way I see...

...anyways, cool film, very thorough, very cool look. Only a couple things stick out, and it's not even the quality of the clip, just that, a) the horses and stables bit... that element was already kinda of done in the Ring, but more interestingly, the girl crawling along the floor in that cool jerky style has already been done...twice...Ring 2, and Excorcist, so...some might say you're treading on worn ground with that little bit, and even maybe wearing your heart too close to the Ring series' sleeve, otherwise a solid piece of work, nice.

and no Urine, you're not the only one...that Japanese Horror cylce has already been feeding off its own self for a few years, how many Grudge sequels are there now? geez...and now we're getting the remakes of the retreads of their junk....

hmm...Junk...another Japanese horror movie, go fig...
