Nightclub Filming

hey longshanks, thanks for the really long reply!

Yeah, I guess I should of gave a bit more detail, etc.

Well I was on YouTube for about an hour now, looking for the best possible video to find on what kind of expectations I want

and the best one I can find is this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXYsCZm43p8

Of course there is NO way in the world on telling what kind of camera it is, but that is the set up I am looking for. A camera that can shoot in the light, I don't need anything fency because the videos will be uploaded onto YouTube, and since YouTube like 95% of the YouTube-ers watch everything in Standard and not in HQ then there is really no point of getting a really kick-ass camera if no one will watch it in good quality anyways.

So yeah, something like that.

And I was thinking of a DSLR, but I really want to have a 'normal' effect, rather then a nightclub effect. Since the nightclub effect with the DSLR is more darker, etc. While I want to concentrate on the people, there faces, etc

Hope this helps

Hmm.. still looking for a bit of help, I know you guys are all busy. But I figured that since its on the 2nd page no one might check it, so I decided to bring it back

less light does not mean more orange, more likely that the white balance was off. however, the dimmer a light source is more the color temp will change and sometimes a bright yellow light will look orange-ish if dimmed down enough.

back to camera and lights: im pretty sure, not 100% that the camera in the picture is the Z1u. if your just going to go standard def, just go with the sony pd150 or 170. you can find them used for pretty cheap. plus, i'd pair it with a on-camera hotshoe light. that is exactly what the person used in the video you linked. here is a host of them on B&H, check it:

You want video camera and an on-camera light. Maybe even a slightly larger light if you can set it up to the side to do interviews.

Depending on your price range and expertise I'd say something along the realm of:

Panasonic DVX100 (dvx100b being the current model)
or
Sony PD170
if you don't need HD (if you're finishing to DVD and the web you dont)

If you must have HD a couple of good low light cameras are:
Sony HVR Z5U/Z7U (basically the replacements for the Z1U) and a pretty good HDV camcorder it lets you use tape or go tapeless (CF Cards)

If you're not afraid to go tepeless:
Panasonic HMC150 is a great tapeless camera that shoots to inexpensive SD cards.
There is a new small JVC that looks pretty nice but I haven't tested it in low light.

I honestly don't think you need the new large JVC, the Sony EX1 or a Panasonic P2 based camera for this kind of shooting.

No matter what you get you're going to need an on-camera light.
