NextFest

So are you saying this is what the next fest is?
No no no. I don't make the fest rules, that's up to Jarred and Barry_S primarily. This thread is just to talk about ideas.

Or are you just saying there will be better definitions of the rules and themes in future fests, like what is considered "spy" for this one?
I'm saying that we will take effort to make sure that the rules (whatever they end up being) are more clearly specified.

I like NextFest... could be that it must take place in the future and clearly be in the future in some way. It could specify 10 years, 20, or even 50 years in the future as the setting, but wouldn't have to be scifi in content.

FutureFest huh?

I like FutureFest! It's not quite like SciFest. I'm thinking Blade Runner, 2001:A Space Odyssey, Waterworld, Silent Running, etc.

And for the robot fans, there could be robots!

I'd say this is the best idea yet... Futurefest...

FutureFest breeds Action, Drama, Horror, Fantasy, everything.

As long as it's presented as the future, right? How could you ensure that?

But, actually, I think Barry's idea is a winner. Phrase and Object a must, open genre, 5 minute time limit. Shave the last minute off.

You gonna do one, Kholi?

if I have time. xD I wrote a script for SpyFest, went through twelve drafts and locked it, then got paying jobs and other shorts to work on.

Trying to get a picture lock on the John Woo contest entry right this mnute.

I would sure love to do it, though!

Is tomorrow considered the future?

Today is yesterday tomorrow. Think about it.

Nah, you'd have to require a certain timeframe, like at least 20 years in the future and require there to be something in the film that suggests that... like Mad Max as an example.

Agreed. Great idea!

FutureFest and NonGenre Fest are both great ideas.

slide Future Fest in before you do the non-genre. Im already brewing with ideas.

FutureFest is good. but I think this might all be moot, because I thought I'd rea that Barry_S had already picked the next fest...am I crazy?

Well, it does feel like you guys are rattling around in my brain. :) We *have* picked the theme for the next fest and I guarantee that some of you might possibly be somewhat inclined to like it--but I don't want to go out on a limb or anything. Honestly, it's going to be a cool fest and a chance to stretch creatively. I'm trying to get everything in place so we can announce it soon, but in the meantime it would be nice to see a few more votes coming in for SpyFest, so get the word out.
