Next Sony Camcorders? Late 2022 or 2023?

Hey, everybody, I've been wondering about Sony's camcorders recently as I love my 4K AX100 but I've been thinking that with 8K becoming the norm, where's the 8K 1" camcorders? Even the Sony RX100/RX10 series could use an update, of which I have the original RX100 which is still a great vacation photo cam! If nothing else, the night vision mode would be even better in 8K and I'm sure the ghost shows and Youtubers out there would have a ball with that much resolution.

However, other than a model or two from Canon and Panasonic, there hasn't been any updates for Sony camcorders, even a slight bump of a 10-bit 4K revision or even a midway 6K compromise. If there's a chance Sony drops camcorders, it would be a real shame and the real question would be what would we do for night vision without them? Has anybody heard anything or have any thoughts about the situation?

I think the last time you asked the same question a year or so ago, it kind of felt the same way in the industry; unfortunately it doesn't seem like many camcorders will be made moving forward and a night vision feature certainly doesn't seem like it would be a priority.

That's hilarious! I thought I may have asked about this before but, yeah, it's a bummer that we haven't seen anything new as of yet. Sony has the UHC-8300 which is a 1.25" sensor so even trickling that down could be something but I'm sure the chip shortage has been a big holdup, however, it looks like things are coming out, I just wonder when or if we may see new camcorders. Otherwise, when do we think Sony or somebody else will come up with night vision for S35/FF cameras?

We usually see two or three new camcorders every 2-3 years, at least below $10K. I don't follow the bigger $20K-$30K shoulder cameras but seemed the same when I used to check the news sites weekly and would see a new one very rarely here and there.

As far as the night vision feature, it's so niche that it's like asking for 480p RAW video. (Maybe not that crazy - but, yeah, it's close.)

I do understand when you need a feature then you need a feature, but that would seriously be at the bottom of the list, if even ever considered anymore.

The 90s, early 2000s camcorders were part of a different world. Back then it seemed like every single camcorder had night vision because it was a normal feature, like a button or switch.

When we and hardware all changed this was dropped from development because it's something 2022 folk wouldn't use/would be interested in.

Maybe do some research on industrial models or something similar if any existing cameras from the big 3 don't have what you need.

If we're counting those Canons, OKAY, that's better.

But still no 4K/60p for that family of Canons...year-after-year, crazy.
