Next Gen?

Hey all--

I'm an HVX200a owner, and I think I'm just about ready to hop over to the 7D side... but one question........

When is the next gen of HDSLR cameras expected? I mean, how long will the 7D be the go-to for HDSLR shooting? If it's a matter of just a year or so, I may just hold out and sell my HVX later...

But if the 7D is going to be the standard for a bit, maybe not.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

things are moviing very fast and for me personally i cant afford to keep up. I just got my 7d maybe 3 months or 2...and what i can tell you is just get a camera and learn it well and hone your craft of lighting, framing and moving the camera. all these cameras are good...and all of them can produce amazing results if you learn ur camera and how it can be pushed and not pushed.

I want to get the AF100 next year but thats because i need an HD video camera. the only HD cam i have is the 7d...which aint a true vid camera. i have my dvx. After the AF100 (if i manage to get one or something similar) then thats it for me for a good while. I will be concentrating on trying to make these cameras look amazing ....no matter how many cams come out after.

The professional Canon DSLR's usually have a life-cycle of about three years between updates. However I don't know if they'll change that life-cycle anytime soon, or even if the 7d (as a completely new camera line) will even follow the 'professional' cycle.

As Jambredz said, if you get a camera now you can learn everything you need to. And the great thing about these cameras is that you can build up your rig/kit and then switch out the body when something better comes out - keeping all the same lenses, support, filters, rails, etc. Judging from ebay, DSLR's tend to hold their value a bit more than camcorders, so selling your old DSLR to trade up is not an extremely severe loss.
