C300: Next Gen EOS Cinema Cameras?

Currently a happy C300 owner.

As i contemplate my next camera purchase, two things I would like in a camera that C300 does not offer me: 10 bit recording and frame rates above 60p.

I have considered the C500, and almost pulled the trigger last year when the price was reduced and a rebate was in play.

My biggest hesitation with the C500 is lack of internal recording in 10 bit. I do own an Odyssey 7Q, but not sure I want to tether every time I shoot.

I have been very happy with the C300 images, despite that fact that it is 8 bit MPEG2 at 50Mbps. I like using EF lenses, and the Autofocus has come in handy more times then I thought it would.

Does the next gen EOS Cinema cameras arrive at NAB 2015? Will they support higher quality on-board recordings? What's the word on the street?

We’re told that the next Cinema EOS camera to be released will be a replacement to the EOS C100 and not the C300 or C500. No details were given as to when the camera would be released or any specifications, but I would assume it’ll come before NAB 2015 in April.

Saving a new C300 or C500 for that show would make marketing sense. Although, we do hear that Canon has plans for an over the shoulder style Cinema EOS camera, and perhaps that could be shown at NAB.

CR0 - a ridiculous, long shot rumor
CR1 - This is a rumor that CR received from a new contact, or a contact that hasn't had a rumor that came true
CR2 - This is a rumor that CR received from a contact that has given reliable rumor info in the past
CR3 - Solid news of something (not really a rumor anymore).

It's funny this comes up… Yesterday, one of my friends that I shoot with brought this subject up. He says he has a buddy that is a Canon rep and he was told there is supposed to be an updated(or update to the) C100 very soon(possibly within the next few weeks). And shoulder mount replacements for the C300/500 by NAB '15. I don't know this "rep", so I have no idea how reliable the info is.

I'm in the same situation Art. Didn't jump on the C500 even though I too have a 7Q. I'll probably keep my C300 when I upgrade since it's both paid for itself and I don't mind bringing it out for a little cheaper rather than shoot on a DSLR again. I'm likely getting a Ronin on my next big job and with the AF upgrade I think it's an ideal camera for that setup.

For the next C-camera, I would imagine 4k/60p/10bit internal minimum. Canon is slow, but certainly not stupid, they see what's out there. I imagine the next line will be built around another great sensor like the last C-line, I'll be happy to have an extra 1.5 headroom and a touch cleaner native ISO. Canon's rarely the first manufacturer out the gate, but when they do release something it's usually pretty great.

Thanks for the opinions.

I can wait until NAB, and hope Canon has an offering to fit my needs by then.

Otherwise I will consider the Amira or maybe the new Varicam35.

It's a "slightly" different price range...

Comparable is at least the Sony FS7 and the Aja CION
