I'd rather see it be documentary including the option to do mocumentary...

I like that idea. It would appeal both the serious and comedic filmmakers. I would honestly love to see some documentaries. You don't really need actors or a budget to make a documentary. Just something interesting to document.

And politics would invariably raise its ugly head.

But didn't sci-fest? Didn't we see everything from very dramatic/serious to totallly slapstick comedic??

if it's either documentary OR mocumentary (one or the other) it just feel way TOO restrictive... where as including both at least gives some flexibility. It could also get pretty tedious to watch 50-75 mockumentaries or 50-75 documentaries.

i say drop the "action" part and lets just do "Adventure."
"Action-Adventure" is the moniker for the overall genre. "Adventure" would be a subset of "Action-Adventure," the same as "crime drama" would be a subset of "action."

In what way, exactly, would that be awesome? :)

Zombie-fest and Sci-fest were awesome. A Noir-fest would be awesome.

But Dogme95-fest?

Seems like it would make for a very painful 60-odd short film viewing session.

I'm still for an open theme with required prop. Then everyone could do what they wanted, any style, any theme, any genre...so long as they integrated the prop.

My vote is for superhero. I think that would by hysterical. You can literally go in ANY direction with that - Noir, Love Story, Action, Mystery, Horror, SciFi - it encompasses everything. I think it would be a hoot.

A lot of these could be easily mixed. Almost any theme can still be comedy, musical, dramatic, romantic, adventure, etc.

Pick a story line and I bet you could weave it into *almost* all of the categories above....

Maybe we all should shut up. I have a feeling that Jarred is going through these posts going, "Superheros... Scratch that. Noir... Scratch... Action... Scratch. I guess I'm just left with... "Gangster Rap Musical Fest '06".

Comedy or Musical.

Comedy or Musical.

I think that the comedy films that entered the past fests weren't taken seriously and so the creators were in a position like "Ill enter but I know I wouldnt win" and that they just did it for fun. It would be great to see this people who do it for fun do it for prizes in their favorite genre.

Also, a musical fest (broadway style) would also be a great challenge for all...

Indeed! That's why I voted comedy.
