nex-ea50 and pwer zoom

The current zoom I cant manual focus due to the fly by wire, if that is better im onboard with the lens

Overall I think the camera looks very good for lightwieght shooting on a budget

Cant see an ND though :(

Proper DSLR killer IMO an a right poke in the eye for canon, C300 down

Sam, you are quick! I was just about to make the new tread :) well I think it's a good replacement for people who want eng style camera with interchangeable lens option.

I think its truly democratic and wonderful to see such chip and functionality in such a package.

I hope the snido C300 muppets are smarting with their loans

Holy man! What an unexpected announcement. Not only the camera, looks pretty great (and nice placement of the screen), but the lens!?! I take it this lens is one of the reasons there's an actual zoom rocker on the FS700 grip, huh?

Why oh why no NDs?

Makes me think I paid too much for my FS100 and I got it at a good discount...let alone the C300 users. Proves my point about spending as little on cameras as humanly possible. The rate of change in this sector is going to catch some ppl out.

That power zoom will be a top selling lens for FS700 users. It'll be hugely useful for the times you want to turn your FS700 into an EX1/3 mode.

We don't have a zoom rocker on the FS100, but this new announcement made me wonder if the servo zoom can be controlled with LANC (which we have)... If all the electric connections are there already, a simple firmware upgrade could actually make it happen!

My guess (going from the NEx5n) is the cam will have 100ISO base - which is the same as FS100 with 4stops of ND (about)

Sure, Id like ND but I dont see the same issues as with the FS100 which needs welding gogles affixed to the lens in daylight hours..

There is a rocker switch n the side of the lens

Another move in the right direction but the lens being a 3.5 to a 6.3 is just too slow. Considering the whole thing lens and all comes in at around $4Kusd I understand, but it's not ideal compared to the speed you use to get on servo zooms in this price range. Getting there though, getting there.

If this takes 16mp stills, its the 5n/VG20 sensor - this might be a replacement for the disappointing VG line, which offered little over a Nex5/5n despite being far more expensive.

This is an S35 chip camera, its been gone over many times.. you are not gong to get a zoom with that range at a faster aperture without it weighing 5kg like a typical cine zoom

6.3 has little DOF at 200 and S35 perform so well in low light compared to 1/3 cameras that this will easily outperform an EX1

Id still like a $5k lens that was a bit better built

I'm just hoping this new camera will get its own section here at dvxeser, and won't be mixed with Sony FS100/700 section.
