Recently just moved up to video from stills.I only have iMovie 08.Since it does not support 24fps of the D7000(which is what I shot) what is it ending up as, 30fps?How much quality am I losing ?
I will be shooting clips on a hot white background for actor's Slates in 1080.They will be on DVD and the web.
Since I am just learning should I upgrade to iMovie 11?This would also require an upgrade to Snow Leopard.at $129 total.Macbook Pro Intel.
Not sure I am ready for FCE.Suggestions?

iMovie '11 won't give you 24p editing capabilities. Neither will FCE. You'd have to move to FCP in order to get that.

I would think that dropping a 24p file into a 29.97 project in both would result in an increased playback speed. The number of frames of video won't change, but the number played per second will which will change the value of each frame's time from 1/24 to 1/30. That will give you playback at 125% speed, which would be a problem.

Thanks for your reply.I did check the specs and 11 does support 24fps .It says it now supports 24 fps progressive frame rate. Not sure if this is what I am looking for. They could be using Nikon's marketing people.

Where did you find that? I've looked all over Apple's website and the new iMovie pages say nothing of 24p.

I Googled IMovie11 and founf the info under one of the headings. I think it might have been in a review. At any rate Vimeo had instructions for how to upload from I Movie 08 anything that was shot at 24 fps.The test I shoot looks pretty good doing that way.
