Newbie tried researching, but ended up more confused.

Hey guys, sorry for another newbie "which lens should I get" thread, but after some hours of research I'm still lost.

I just ordered a GH1 body only - my first camera. I'm looking for a set of cinematic primes to do visual narrative work for general indoor/outdoor work. I can't say which I'll be filming in the most since I'm a film student who will be using this kit to practice and develop a style.

From what I've researched, I really like the look of the Leica R series. But they're not 4/3s like the GH1. I've been told I can run into a bit of trouble with these due to a shifting in focal length. Do you think, as a learning film student, I should stick to 4/3s lenses, or should I go for the R series lenses. Are there particular 4/3s lenses that you'd recommend that have the Leica R series look?

Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide!

The GH-1 is 'micro 4/3rds' not 4/3rds.
There are native lenses for both.
Leica R lenses are not 'cinematic primes' either, they are good quality 35mm still (SLR) lenses. I'm pretty sure you can buy a Leica R to micro 4/3rds adapter.
I have a Leica M to Micro 4/3rds adapter. The M lenses look great on the GH-1, but they aren't electronically coupled, so not a lot of help with light metering and no help with focus, except with the naked eye.
OK, I'm a newbie too. True cinematic primes can be used on the GH-1 and the results look amazing. Those lenses are very, very expensive. I presume out of reach for most students.
Maybe start out with a Panasonic lens? The pancake 20mm, f1.7 looks to be great quality.
Leica M lenses are very expensive, same with R, although they're maybe slightly cheaper.

Thanks! I'll look into the M series. Do you happen to have any video examples of your work with them posted? I've also seen the pancake 20mm talked about quite a bit around here. Do these lenses come in different focal lengths?

Thanks again, chrisso!
