Newbie to 150

Need some very basic help, I have the 150 and wanted some basic "get started" settings for outdoors / on water shooting.

Also, I have changed batteries in the remote but it still doesn't work, is there a "setting or switch" to activate remote use, I was told by previous owner that he never used it.

Thank you in advance for your help...

Basic outdoor settings:
-5.6k white balance
-Use the built in ND filters to keep your aperture f/8 or under
-Shutter speed of 1/48 sec in 24p, 1/60 sec in 30p, 1/120 in 60p modes, unless you want choppier looking footage.
-"Cine V" scene file for punchy contrast baked into your shot, or "Cine D" for a flatter color palette for color grading in post.

I'm not sure about the remote, as I lost mine a few months ago. Enjoy your new camera!

Awesome info and sounds like a great starting point... I have had some videographers work for me and their stuff comes out so dark outside, purples look more grey than purple, water and skies are dark, faces, etc..... just want to avoid that while not over exposing.. thank you for your help... I'm not trying to make the next "deadliest catch" but would like basic composition, color, etc... the following shots are acceptable, they were made with a different camera by someone I hired.. hoping to achieve same quality ...

Here's a few basic shots with different settings on the new camera... the video above was not shot with this new camera but am hoping for that kind of quality....

Zebras at 105 helps for sure... THe camera loves for you to push the latitude but not to go nuclear... So when you hit 105 you know you've gone nuclear..... You can also get a lot of mileage out of a UV/Haze filter and a nice circular polorizer... Really helps a lot.

I have filters I just wanted to shoot "naked" so ya'll could see what it looked like with nothing.. not sure what the zebra is, I put it on but it made a ton of lines on the viewfinder, etc... :-) hehehehe like I said I'm a newbie... but if you are in orlando I may pay a consulting fee and get ya to drop by I live near mt dora...

I believe there's a menu item for activating the remote, can't recall for sure but poke around in there.

And get Barry Green's HMC book. It's the bible for the camera.

Looks like the JVC HDV camera if the still photos in that video are any indication. The HMC-150 should more than hold its own against that.

I notice that some of the shots are being exposed for the sky and that leaves the faces darkened. You either have to use a graduated ND/circular polarizing filter or be okay with blown out skies in order to have faces exposed properly, so shooting "naked" is not really a good idea in this type of videography.

You guys are really helping, thank you.... Michael, found it, menu item activate.. thank you.... Gary, the fishing video wasn't shot naked nor with these cameras, just the one short video of my truck was shot naked trying to see what buttons did what... I do have filters and other lenses, etc... just not sure what to do with them yet.... :-) and like the fishing video, it was dark at times and couldn't make out faces, etc.. one of the reasons I am going to shooting my own stuff, spent way too much money to have poor work.. I can do poor work myself, for free.... :-) hahahah Thanks so much for the comments...
