Newbie Questions: Passive mounts for F3 & Recorder

Is there anyone out there making passive mounts for the F3 besides MTF (which is active with their remote)?
Obviously looking for EF, but also others if they exist.
What are people using if they are not going PL with this camera?
As far as I can tell there is no specific name for the mount underneath...

Sorry for the newb questions, but after trying to sort through numerous threads for hours thought enough was enough, so decided to ask...

PS (a big one):
Any reason not to go with a Hyperdeck shuttle v2 for 10bit S-Log 422 vs. Atomos, SD, AJA, etc.?
Talking image quality-wise here, not added functionality of screen for example...

thanks for your patience guys.

Many people here went with the Prolock by Optitek for Nikon mounts because its cam action acts similar to a PL mount and has an aperture ring to handle lenses without an aperture ring or those lenses that haven't been declicked.

What about for Canon based lenses (EF mount)?

I really like using the Allstar A mount system for my F3 - http://allstar-cine.myweb.hinet.net/html/red_accessories/A_Mr.htm .... You replace all your still lens mounts with proper steel mounts that allow them to mate to the A mount on your camera body. This allows a stronger connection than you would get than when using the lighter weight still mounts with an MTF adapter (I own one of those too). It also lets you change lenses from maker to maker without changing mounts. You can easily swap out a PL lens to any of the supported still lenses quickly and efficiently. The machining is top notch. The only real letdown is the sytem doesn't support EOS - but most other lenses: Leica R, Contax, Nikon F, Nikon G, M42, BNCR, PL, Oct 19....f3 image.jpg

Thanks for the Allstar A system reference. As I have a nice set of Zeiss Contax lenses (35/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.4), as well as some great M42's, that works well. However, for certain lenses in the wide range like the Canon 16-35 and Tokina 11-16 (Canon mount), I am still a little bit bugged...

In terms of recorders it seems to me that the new AJA Ki Pro Quad, might do the trick for 10 bit 444 S-Log from this camera. Anyone else looking at this option? What are people's experiences with the Ki Pro Mini?

Still wondering if the F3 is getting a bit long in the tooth in the middle of all of this potential investment in new gear. Especially considering it doesn't do 2K, only full HD. Which is slightly problematic for scaling in terms of cinema projection. Guess a lot depends on what kind of 4K update the FS700 provides. If that camera gets some kind of S-Log or Dynamic Range expansion, might be worth waiting...

I swear by the Optitek ProLock mount for Nikon, wish I had bought it first instead of the MTF. As far as 422 external recorders go, I used to own the KiProMini and while it's a nice piece of equipment, in the field it's a giant PITA. Huge power hog, expensive CF cards that do not span from one to the other, file corruption if you lose power and it's kinda heavy. I've had the Samurai since Jan. and since their improved cables came out along with updated firmware, I absolutely love it. The monitor can only be used a a reference though, would never judge exposure, color or focus with it. They have made large improvements to it though recently via updates.

Yes, that makes sense but I am looking for a 444 solution..really dont see many solutions unless I am missing something...

I would expect KiPro Quad to be shipping soon. I know that its shipping is tied to the Canon C500 deliveries. That would give you 3 444 solutions unless, of course, you were shooting in an environment where you could run SDI to capture/card computer and record directly to a raid.

Yes, I have been looking at the KiPro Quad. Seems to be the least expensive solution, albeit a power hungry one.

The Ki Pro Quad is for RAW based files when you get up into the 444 chroma shooting. The functionality of the Quad will only be as good as the functionality of the Ki Pro Mini when used on an F3, unless AJA have added more planned functionality to the unit in the past month or so.

The Quad supports 10 bit 444 on the F3, the mini only 10bit 422.
