I'm a newbie... and excuse my bad english. I've just purchased a HVX200 and I'm very confused. It's all about the .mxf files.
I've installed P2 Viewer from Panasonic to look at my shots, the problem is I want to edit them too. How? How do I open these files? How do I convert them into .avi, .mov for example?
How can I import them into After Effects?
I know some programs that can do that, DVFilm Maker - Raylight etc...
What editing software support the .mxf HVX200 files? I shot in 720p/25pn...
Thank you!

Well, if you are using final cut pro 6.0 or better, then you just go to file: then scroll down to log and transfer and choose the p2 card in order to import those files and they will then be converted to .mov files in the location you specified as your scratch disk.

Thanks for the answer, the problem is I don't have MAC OS. There is something for Windows?

You could download the Grass Valley EDIUS NLE Software Demo (v4.52). This free 30-day trial version includes complete support for Panasonic DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO HD, P2.

chr,
a key bit of information here is: What editing software are you using now? Or planning/hoping to use?

There is a solution for most programs, but untill we know what software you will be using, any sugestions are simply guesses.

I have the same lingering question in my mind. I was wondering if Premiere CS2/CS3 can import MXF files directly without converting them. Oh, hey, wait a minute. Do the newer versions or Premiere even support capturing and editing in HD (upto 1080/24pA)?

The latest update of Premiere CS3 handles P2 natively. Probably the best support of any NLE except Edius Broadcast.

I understand After Effects will add that functionality soon.

^ Thanks.

Another n00b question, though. Does Premiere CS3 (3.1) support editing in 1080i/25p @ 50Hz (PAL) directly from an HVX202's P2 card or an external HDD?
