Hi,

I've been out of the filmmaking world for a while now and just starting to get back to things. I recently purchased a Macbook pro and Final cut pro. I'm looking to purchase a cheap cam to film shorts. I don't want to invest a lot since I don't aspire to be a DP. This is just for me gain filmmaking experience. It's to help me strengthen my screenwriting skills; to be able to think more visually, so to speak.

My budget is under $500 for the cam and I want to be able to output to Final Cut (if's that's the correct term).

Thx

What do you want to be? Strictly a writer? Maybe you should find someone who is an aspiring DP and work with them. If it's just practice for your own sake it really doesn't matter what you get as far as cameras go.

You could do worse than a Panasonic HDC SD 100 - though a domestic camera the picture quality is excellent and it offers SD card recording. You may find one secondhand on eBay. The model has now been replaced by the 200 which is more expensive.
