GH2 Newbie filmmaker thinking of buying a gh2

Hey guys, after reading glowing reviews about the gh2 I have decided that maybe I should buy a gh2. However, my school only has Canon lens or Sigma Canon mount lens available so I would have to get a canon mount for the gh2. What would be the best Canon mount available? What lens should I get? Also would there be a problem in consistency if I were to edit footage from the 60d with the gh2? Thanks

I've done this all the time- cuts nicely. OF course you have to setup matching color profiles before you shoot or you'll be spending a lot of time color grading in post. I like the Novoflex Canon mounts. Those lenses will rock.

There's a huge difference between Canons and GH2 with green colors. GH2 fails rendering certain range of green correctly. These are framegrabs, first is 5DmkII - rendering the green of the doctors shirt correctly and how it looked to the eyes - second is GH2, 'smooth' film mode. Both cameras were matched for white balance. You can see GH2 completely failing to render the green correctly. I don't think there's a way to fix this in cam, you can correct it in post though.

Yeah matched for white balance isn't even the half of it. You need to a/b both cameras with a color chart on a broadcast monitor until you find matching color settings. White balancing and a built-in color preset is going to result in nowhere close to a match...

stoneinapond,
it was a controlled light situation with 5500K lights, but we had to adjust Kelvin on one camera slightly to get same WB. The point is, 5DmkII renders certain green tones as it is seen by the eyes, GH2 doesn't. If you have a GH2 you probably have noticed wrong greens constantly (grass, trees etc), sometimes it's not a big difference, sometimes it's significant. I've seen other people noticing it too.

NoahK, it would only make sense to adjust GH2's colors to match 5D as 5D is the reference, but there is no way to do that except changing film modes or manually push WB in a different color direction (G,M,B,A). GH2 is just not capable of reproducing certain green tones correctly. If you have managed GH2 to do so let me know please.

another example, first 5DmkII, second GH2. Everything matches very well except green.

That's way outside of any color mismatch I've personally experienced. What can I say- YMMV.

I have just started with the GH2 but the two things I noticed was the hue of green and the blue overtones on the low mids and shadows. The green definately has too much blue but the color is pretty much baked in. No matrix etc. to adjust. Luckily the hack allows for higher bitrates which makes secondary color correction a lot more successful. Btw, the 5D is no pillar of perfect color either.

moving from a 550D to a GH2 i prefered the GH2s overall pq but stip is right green is the GH2s poorest color.
As an example the girl dancers costumes in this were very similar green to stigs doctor,i could not get anywhere near matching correctly in cam, true i never bothered in post.

I have little problem with greens. Of course it also depends on what kind of glass you have on the camera. But when I do a quick "eyeball" of the WB settings, I use the K scale as a guide only and will quite happily go over/under if it suits the shot. I also find the LCD bad for judging WB, preferring to use the EVF, even if I'm framing with the LCD.

The evf is the only option outdoors for me,sadly no lens or white balance k scale option can get greens like i showed accurately filmed.
