Newbie capture question?

[jinks]

Hi all. Finally I made the lip and got the hvx200, my question is... can vegas7 capture 1080/24p from the hvx200 without a p2 card straight to the laptop? I tried to it but vegas can't detect the device. I know it supports HD editing, but can it capture? I don't want to buy another application just for this if vegas can do it.
Sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere, thank you.

Sorry, no. There is no support for either capturing directly from the HVX or even editing DVCProHD with Vegas itself.

If you can get P2/MXF material to your Vegas system, then Raylight, Cineform or the Adobe/Serious Magic DVCProHD Decoder will let you edit it in Vegas. But none of those tools by themselves will let you capture live from the camera without P2 media.

Adobe/Serious Magic's DV Rack 2.0 HD is a standalone (and very worthwhile) application that would let you capture without having P2 media.

Other PC applications that can capture from the HVX include Canopus Edius 4 Broadcast, Avid, and Matrox Axio.
