New Veydra Mini Anamorphic 2X Project

Very welcomed, in my opinion...

"The Veydra Mini Anamorphic Project is an ongoing development project to manufacture true 2X Front Anamorphic lenses exclusively for the Micro Four Thirds camera bodies."

"The Veydra Mini Anamorphic 2X 25mm T2.2 M4/3 should be available at the end of 2015. We will simultaneously develop other longer focal lengths with the aim to make a 3 lens set available sometime in 2016. Expected pricing per lens is to be around or under $5,000 USD per lens."

Is the design and manufacturing of a cinema quality zoom beyond the scope of smaller companies?

I don't have one but I think the GH4 is anamorphic ready. Maybe not the monitor but all decent 3rd party monitors do and in camera could be fixed with firmware.

I'm equally excited by the 8.5 or 9mm wide buried in the announcement. Rocking the BMPCC this is very welcome, 25mm equivalent.

More likely it's still a cost issue. A real cine quality zoom even on the cheap is still going to be upwards of $8K - $10K, so you won't sell tons of them.

Now they just need any m43 cameras with 4:3 or 1.2:1 capture modes and anamorphic desqueeze...

I guess they just mod the better photo lenses and double/triple the price.

One would think that, with the hardware prices dropping like a rock, someone will make cine zooms that are OEM in this double-triple ($3,000-$6000) range rather than ... well, $20,000 and up. Tokina makes some -- 11-16mm T3 in both EF and MFT for $1,600 and a 16-28mm T3 in EF and PL for $3,000 but these also seem repurposed photos.

I think the Veydra lenses are built from scratch using well known optical formulas, which is why the are quite unique at this price point.
Ya but those are all primes. Tokinas are the relatively affordable zooms. Then it jumps into the stratosphere quickly.

This is a good opportunity for someone like Nikon or Sigma, IMO, as Canon will only sell EF and PL mounts.
