Hey all,
I posted some grabs from this a short while ago and now i have the first cut up. I am making the last changes now but this is pretty close to the finished product. Really just a few shots being swapped out and soem final touchs on color correction but for what it is worth, here is the video.

Band is Classic case, we shot this in like 5 hours or so actual production time. I spent about 6 hours on the edit and another almost two with CC and the few effects. I will probbally have another hour and a half on changes. So enjoy, throw comments, ect.

That was very professional looking and the song really rocked. The look was really great and it never got boring (which most preformance videos seem to do). Really well done.

Hahaha! Tizzy That's my boy Durijah right there! The video looks f-in awesome. Love the silhouette flashes. Good CC too. What's that white thing on the side of the frame in Jarred's closeups? Didn't really bother me, just wondering what it was. Great job.
-Ryan

P.S. Maybe I was just paying attention to his shots more, but Durijah's (the drummer for everyone else) shots at the top of the vid look a little strange. Seems like when you cut to him, it was one dolly shot then kinda jumpcut to a static shot of him. I dunno, I think I'd try to mix that around a little.

Love the look, the close up of the guy singing looks great, reminds me of a pepsi commercial. it makes me thirsty haha. For comments, The white on the left side is kinda distracting for me, and dude with the skeleton shirt rocks! His outfit gives it a whole different feel for me, and hes wearing glasses too which is cool. He stuck out more cuz everyone is pretty much just ordinary with their clothing. but overall bro, good work. way to represent c-town man! holla!

yeah, that is very inspiring and motivating.

Cant wait to do my bands music videos.

Thank you all for the comments:

Hybrid: You know Durijah? SWEET! Very nice, yeah he freakin rocks. I will tell you this much, they had been on vacation just before the shoot and were WAY out of shape. I like to do full takes of the track for easier synch and they always needed a break in bwtween.. all except Durijah. He showed up with a case of Bud Light and went through 2 packs of smokes and STILL could hardly broke a sweat by the end of each take. Next time you see him... asl him to show you the tatoo on his inner lip LOL As to the shot in question it is a bit of a jump cut, but I broke sevral editing "rules" if you will on purpouse here. In the first chorus on the line "Wait for relief to arrive" I cut from a medium to a medium to a medium that pulls back, but becuase o camera whips and the like it has not seemed to stick out to anyone, including my boss who is very [icky about such things. (I already hid another he did not like with a film flash in between) This is just the first cut though, the second is currently rendering and will hopefully be up next week though I will have to rely on others in Miami to do it for me since I wont be here.

McShyd: What would not be boring, storyline? Originally there was to be a rather good one but the label yanked the budget holding it for th next single and so they really did not even have enough for just a performance vid but i did promise them one so I worked with what I had avaliable. By the same token there was no real justification of extensive post work to jazz it up. Just curious what would have spiced it up for you?

Nobody: Thanks, yeah there are some performance videos I love but they can be difficult to keep interesting and i have several of them coming up so I do strive to make it work, while keeping them seperate.

Videohog: I'll drop you a line, talk to the label and the band and see if that is something they would like since it is their video.

Shiloh: Not sure, it is quicktime 6 actually, might try another app other then safari

Hiro: Thanks man, much appreciated! Yeah Mitch is the bomb, one of the notes from the management on the final cut of the video was "More Mitch" LOL That is actually shot in Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte man, I am good friends with Dave and Kristen and have shot several videos there. I actually have two more in Charlotte before th4 end of the year... care to lend a hand? And by hand I mean yours.. with your DVX on it.. shooting second camera. LOL

and finally ILL Eagle: Nice is winning the lottery and using it to buy a DVX! Sweet!

Thanks all, keep the comments coming and thanks for watching.

a storyline. basically, yes. I understand the budget constraint and you obviously did a spectacular job with what you had to work with. this is the same problem i had watching the beck retrospective at resfest. 3 hours of ecu's on beck made me insano. I would try to convince them to interweave images of themselves, (which they just loved, didn't they) with some kind of subject relating to the song, or something completely freaking random, anything so that i don't become so aware of the video.

Papa: Thanks, always nice to motivate!

Coffee: Trendy... Trendy is good.

Although I must say the best response thus far has been my boss at the big studio. It finished playing and he shrugged and said, "It is every bit as good as the rest of the **** on MTV." LOL Of course later when clients of his came in and saw me working on it they were like, "What is this? This video freakin rocks!!" To which He would say, "I know, he did a great job didn't he." He just does not like me doing things for smaller budgets, but I had commited to this some time back so...

Oh, someone asked about the white thing on the Close ups. That is actually gaffers tape. Yeah see normally on a video like this I would rig Kinos on the top and bottom of the matte box for those CU shots. I did not have Kinos, so i used 24" Flourescents you can get at Wal-mart. Nice soft even light, and th lead sin ger has those big blue eyes so i wanted to pull those out. Trouble was a piece of gaffers tape folded up on the far corner and it is outside the TV safety zone so I could not see it on the day, but it is on the raw. The quicktie uses the entire image so.. there you have it. It has been cropped and hidden in the final.

McShyd: Thnks for the response. I do enjoy storylines, but I also enjoy the challenge of straight performance shoots. My Ten Missing Days video i had posted here had a storyline that worked well, but the one we had for this was bigger, more ambitious. It really would not have worked without locations we could not aquire without money. It was so good in fact the band could not think of doing anything else and I had to agree. Originally there was some talk about doing a sort of MCR video with footage of the band in their van, and hotel rooms ect but again that is time intensive and with my current position i can no longer do those types of things if the money is not there. It is an odd transition to make.. It is about the love I have for it but it is business as well. At times you just have to say, "Sorry the answer is no." and let the chips fall where they may. Some say. "Money is money, you are holding out for X amount more just make it work." but my boss has a very interesting take on it, he says, "Gear never got broken just sitting in the truck, or locked up in the storage room. If we are taking it out on a shoot and taking that risk it needs to be worth it.. that is why everything has a fee." and you know what... he is right.

He turns down atleast 3 music videos a month, but we have done no less then 4 here a month for the last 5 months... and one month we did 7. For handling all of it in house, that is alot. So all in all it is a gamble in some ways, but a sensible one.

Thanks for the in put though, I do appreciate it. I can tell you we are supposed to do another video for the band early next year, the track is way better and it will ahve the budget for both mini35 AND a storyline, so stay tuned.
-Tizzy

Hahaha, now I have to call him. His tat is now enjoying widespread internet gossip fame. Probably one of the most amazing tatoos ever. I heart... Tongue in cheek if you will...
-Ryan

Edit: If ya ever come up to NY or LI, shoot me an email, we should shoot sumpin'.

LMAO!!! AHhhh it is great ou know about it. Yeah it is something that ahs to be seen to be believed that is for sure. As he puts it, "Whats the big deal? No one has to know it is there if I don't want them to other then me and my dentist."

Good stuff.
-Tizzy

really love the look tizzy

the angles, the lighting, the atmosphere was great, you really have a eye for composition

would add a storyline for your next project, since theres only so much you can do at one location...other than that, congrats and thanks for the inspiration

Thank you very much young-H. Actually Like I mentioned I have shot three videos there, and none of them look alike. One was outside in a aprking structure, one on their small stage and one in the room of the big stage, which is bassically a wharehouse, so I just built a set in it.. which I can do all day long. I still have not even used the big stage, I want to do a bigger like 6 camera live shoot thewir sometime with a band that has a big draw.. some day. Thanks again.
-Tizzy

I really like the KamaSutra video. There is something crazy going on when it transitions from BW to color. That is with with mini35, no?

Good game doing 7 videos in one month. I want to be doing 2 a month soon. How many people do you have working for you?

nice camera work, cuts, composition, colors, even music.. Good job. Everything a music video should be. Only drawback. Seen this style of editing and cutting in tons of other music videos. still, very professional.
