New Sound Devices Pix recorders pricing?

only official word I've read is that pricing will be "competitive" with monitor/recorders with similar functionality. So $2000 to $2500 maybe?

They did describe it as "affordable", so I'm hoping against hope it will be a grand cheaper than that! But I doubt it, I expect similar pricing as the others but a more robustly built item.

At this point in time it looks like CD's Odyssey Q7+ is the only affordable 4K recorder able to do RAW recording, which will be a big deal for some shooters. I am surprised that SD didn't go after RAW recording as part of their standard feature set.

Ok, I found pricing in this video http://www.newsshooter.com

These are VERY AFFORDABLE.
5 inch model HDMI-only recorder/monitor without SDI $1195, with SDI $1395 and 7 inch $1595.

I don't know what features they are going to be adding, but the pricing makes them useful for any of us.
It's hard to shoot without a decent focus and parade monitor, worse not to have a review screen.

I wish there were more flexible sound add-ons.

"PIX-E can record 4K up to 24 fps, UHD up to 30 fps and 1080p or 720p up to 60 fps."

Unless the competition lowers their prices a lot, I'm getting one.

Ability to record RAW requires a pretty hefty throughput/datarate, not to mention much larger storage requirements. It may well be SD opted for a lower price by sacrificing the speed to record RAW. IMHO, not allthogether a bad decision.

Yes, it's a whole new ballgame at these price points. I was expecting SD to price these recorders the same or higher than the Odyssey Q7+. 4K recording at $1195 is amazing.

As there is no way to get Raw out of my GH4, I think I might take the $1K price, and all-metal build quality. Although, if CD lowered their price enough the decision would be tough as they have the more mature product. Not to be too snarky, Blackmagic have an HD recording monitor at $500 which should be fully compatible with their Raw, and I'd expect them too to be at 4K for $500 next year.

also for a reported extra $300 you can also get the PIX-LR device which integrates 2 xlr inputs and outputs with SD's high quality audio pre-amps

Yeah, useful but on the other hand users have reported that the Pix series previously was not able to record sound without a video source, nixing the obvious secondary application as a pure sound recorder. It remains to be seen whether this limitation is now removed.

Another application would be simply as a card-copying and previewing device, but I think we're not going to see that either.

It would be nice if SD open-sourced the software.

Dang, pretty good prices. But I'm definitely a versatility guy... The fact that the 7Q+ can do 4K from HDMI, SDI, ProRes, RAW (from Sony, Canon, Arri, etc), and will even have 60fps 4K and 240fps 2K ProRes soon, is huge deal to me. I use different cameras from time to time and different projects have different needs, the 7Q+ can pretty much always meet those needs.
