FS5: New Sony FS5 footage

Ouch... that's ugly. I suspect that the same shooter could make any camera look equally awful.

Looking forward to testing one soon. And I assure you that I won't post anything that looks like that....

Wow you guys are pretty nasty . A guy shoots a little test of his camera and you're all over him for terrible shooting. It looks like he mostly just shot someone talking about the camera . Sure the beauty shots have some weird color but so what its just some tests. I think it takes a lot of courage to post something here and open yourself for a deluge of criticism . Frankly I don't think that most of our regular posters exactly compare to Gordon Willis so i'd be reluctant to cast the first stone.

New FS5 Footage (it starts at 10:28 minutes to the end of the clip, while before, when the guy speaks there are just few seconds of footage) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH8mDy5KPMc

Thanks for posting.

I think it is interesting to see some raw footage. Is this the final production version? I don't speak Mandarin so I don't know what is said.

We all know you can make any camera look great or bad. For just R&G with the kit lens it looks very promising to me. I have one on order.

This does not strike me as an edited CC'd piece. More like something I would shoot if someone handed me a camera and let me shoot no tripod for a few minutes. I don't see anything that would dissuade me from using this camera/lens combo.

If anyone can point out how you would, from a YT compressed clip, find something specifically bad about this kit I would love to hear it.

You're welcome, the camera is a pre-production model as others that are circulating worldwide, the video is in Korean language.

Would be delighted if you would post some footage when you get it. As a Mandarin speaker, the only thing that puts me off is this is in Korean... ;)

Am torn between the internal 4.2.2 10 bit of the FS7 and the future proofing 16 bit RAW of the FS5 (versus 12 bit RAW of the FS7). I can also cheat a bit and don't have to buy a shoulder rig for the FS7 in the short term. At these price points, well, I'm just torn. Would love to see your footage!

I think you'll find that the FS5 will have 12bit RAW not 16bit (The F5/F55 has 16bit RAW).

Paul: I wouldn't base a purchase decision now on the FS5's "future raw" possibilities. It might be mind blowing and offered for free/cheap, or it might be horrendously expensive with an borderline unworkable workflow. Or anywhere in between, or some mixture of both. Who knows!! None of us that is what.

I do like the hand grip of the FS5 however I think users should ensure it's set to stun before taking it out in public.

I'm a Sony fan but that does not mean Sony won't burn you.

It happens on nearly every model camera sold in the last 3-6 years so my advice is not to buy the FS5 on paper specs or counting on future enhancements or capabilities.

Case and point you might want to read this thread: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...etween-12-bit-RAW-16-bit-RAW-amp-10-bit-S-Log The short version is that it might be that the 12-bit RAW can't really handle the total dynamic range of the FS7 or FS5…

And to add to what Dennis has said. If your really thinking about buying a FS5 or an FS7, you would be far happier if you saved a while longer and put that money in to a PMW-F5. No messing about with the F5, it's only limited by no LUTs in S&Q motion but everything else is solid gold. All these other Sony cams are crippled in some way, remember you get what you pay for.

True that! We who bought FS700 with 4K as an added bonus down the road, got seriously burnt on Sonys own 4K raw recording solution. Both price and size.
