New Sony FS E-mount 4K camcorder to be announced at IBC

There will be no grip handle, no Loupe with the LCD monitor, no XDCA extension connector, and expect to have some menu settings greyed out.

So why does Sony's outline graph clearly show a grip handle and a viewfinder? Does that mean you have to purchase the handle as an extra? And the lack of a loupe exists because there is a real viewfinder?

By grip handle, I think they mean the extended one on the FS7. This one will probably have a regular side grip molded to the body, like the Z100. And a top grip, of course.
And there's a rear EVF, so no need for the loup. But I wonder if one can be made for it? I suspect Zacuto or someone will make one.

$5K for an 8bit 4:2:0, 4K, S35 sensor, camera body only? Too much competition to get away with that configuration. If this is true, then Panasonic and BMD have nothing to worry about. Especially now that I can get pretty good 4K 8bit 4:2:0 for around 1K from a little company out in CA called Apple.

I'm not so sure... I mean, it won't really compete with the DVX200, it's too apples and oranges. But, minus the m4/3 mount and (for some) 4:2:2 internal, it seems to check most of the boxes folks were clamoring for in the AF100 successor. Since I'm going to assume it's probably cheaper to outfit than the Ursa or Ursa mini, if it can record 4:2:2 externally, I think it's will probably do quite well.

About the only thing that would make it worth $5k is if it had internal ND, great HFR options etc.. . oh wait, that is called an FS700.

No this is clearly going to have some specs to drool over, like great HFR or maybe even 10bit 4:2:2.

If not, may as well stick with the FS700/C100/A7S rig.

Let's see what they come out with!! $5K for an 8bit 4:2:0, 4K with no HFR doesn't make sense for me either... because 8-bit probably means no slog3 which means you'd rather stick to an FS700.

Which makes a lot more sense. And 1080p240, 3G-SDI, 4K HDMI, internal NDs... What's the difference with the FS7, actually? Just that it's a long-gop codec? Also: 0.8 Kg, vs 2 Kg for the FS7, is a very impressive slim down.

– 0.8kg weight.
– Electronic ND
– Snap off handle like FS7
– Screen looks very similar to FS7 but more twist action
– 240fps
– It’ll also have S-log 3 and raw via output.
– ohh another camera. A7S mark II
– 4K internal as expected. and talk about high ISO performance, probably picking up where the A7R II lets off.
– We’re moving ono a dynamic range monitor now. Look nice on a screen through a camera broadcasted and streamed on an iMac retina…

But does it have CineEI and SGamut3.cine?

Does the FS5 have CineEI mode? If it only has Custom mode with SGamut3.cine it could be good news for FS7 owners that the next firmware will have this feature too.

Apart from the crappy internal 4K, Slog 3 and the smaller size, it doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more than the FS700, which can actually output 4K RAW now. RAW for the FS5 will probably come away later and most likely as a paid upgrade.

Actually these 3 cams, FS7, FS5 and FS700 are confusingly close and because they all use the same sensor make very similar images.

The Sony chap talking on the video on the news-shooter page said RAW output would be a paid upgrade.
