It wont be FS7 if it's an XDCAM camera. F7? Maybe it could be part of the PMW family or the new PXW family. To have almost or better features than the current F5 and still be a PMW-F7 doesn't sound true. Another NEX camera? I think Sony dropped the NEX name. PXW then sounds like the best bet and in line with their new X160/X180/X70. All with standard features as XAVC, 422 50mb/s and XQD slots.

So PXW-X7or PXW-F7? As the X marks the new bridge cameras between HD and 4k with XAVC codec I bet there's an X in the name. Or why not PXW-FX770.

Agreed. I wonder what they will do after 4K.. what's next?

Faster frame rates.
More global shutters
Increased light sensitivity (higher base ISOs)
Increased bit depth.

At the point that they can't market us on more pixels, these are the easily quantifiable metrics that will likely be marketed.

Your F55 will still shoot great pictures 10 years from now. But whatever is selling new then will likely also have a global shutter and probably a minimum of 1000fps recording to 16 bit raw, with a higher base ISO.

Sooner or later, the F5 and F55 will be just as obsolete as my F3 and F35. All it's going to take is time.

This baby sounds pretty good to me.
super 35
shoulder mt
Slog 3 ( big deal as I understand it)
a mt and therefore e mt which should mean you can shoot w metabones speed booster & get full frame
steady shot - big goddamn deal to many of us - though it won't be with all lenses I imagine.
180- fps
4K internal RAW or XAVC ( did I read that?) & 1080 422 w the adapter which will probably cost an arm & a leg if I know Sony
works with 7Q
I'm a little dubious about that weird arm though - hope they have really done their homework on that one - Where's Allister Chapman to let us know?

So what's wrong with it? What does the F5 do that this doesn't . Can you adapt PL lenses to A mt?

Sony must have hobbled it somewhere - what am I missing folks?

Sensors, amazing low light sensors like in the A7s, they will push sensors before going up to 6-8K. How long before 65 and 70mm sensors? Now that could be interesting.

To be honest, they are running out of gimmicks now, are eyes can only see so much.

Ordered the F5 today, apart from no global shutter, what more will I ever need

Now I want that S16 baby camera, PXW-X70

What, you mean after a few years it will be worthless?

lol, no he means that you can buy an slog4 memory card for $$$ in a few years and then find out that it ships for free with the camera in a few more years...

seriously, sony has a pretty weird camera lineup atm... great cameras, but feature-wise, there doesn't seem to be a real distinction between all the camera models anymore.

Actually I am talking about form factor and the relative lightweight nature of the camera. Remember that Sony had two competitors for the F3 at the time of it's release, the RED Scaret and the Canon C300. They have clearly adopted some of the latter's qualities.

i assumed that this was your thinking and i think it overall looks promising. won't upgrade though.

It's the perfect camera. Sony did it. And they're so disruptive to the point of not even caring about cannabilizing higher products. They're just giving the best technology they can offer for the lowest price.

I was expecting the FS7 to have a good design, but not this perfect. It's simply brilliant in design, size, weight, buttons, grip, shoulder mount, evf, and it even looks gorgeous in terms of aesthetic.

I was also expexting they leave at least SOMETHING for the F5 and FS700, raw output and 240, but they didn't, they gave it everything. This is all for 8 thousand dollars. Perfect ergonomics, and perfect image quality (F5/F55).

Look like sony just made me 8000$ poorer in 2015 :)

By the way sony officially announced enabling internal 4K in the F5.

.

Me too. This camera is amazing. I was thinking of upgrading to the F5, but I think I'll get the FS7 now. Small, powerful with good form. S-Log 3 and Cine color gamut as well? WTF? Crazy!

Even though FZ mount is more robust, the E-Mount is nice just because of Metabones and Speed Booster.

Great summary and I agree completely. This is the camera I've been hoping somebody would make for years.
And here I just bought a PMW-300. Taking trade-ins, Sony?

I was briefed 3 weeks ago about the camera and have been faithfully sticking to my NDA.

Now I can talk.

When you consider the ratio or price point to features, this camera can be described by every contemporary bit of jargon imaginable-- breakthrough, disruptive, etc etc. A point that has not been stressed enough is its tight body construction. Highly impervious to moisture and dust. E mount is brilliant-- Sony is expanding its line of E Mount lenses and that 28-135 f/4 servo is a useful all-around choice. Sony has been using internally E-EF Speedbooster with Canon glass. I do know as well that Abel Cine is looking to produce higher-quality (and yes, higher priced) adapters. I have heard far too many reports of Speedboosters failing after several months or even less. Combine the FS-7 plus breakout box with an Odyssey 7Q or Shogun once all of the firmware is workout out and you will have a 12-bit CinemaDNG Raw camera for under $20K including camera, lens, recorder and SSD's.

Once the camera visuals start appearing, you will note how small it is. I worry a bit that those with large fingers might have some trouble with controls (this is what I found reviewing the X70).

I do wish Sony would provide a WFM rather than just histogram. This has been one of my gripes all along.

I was also told that while the camera will ship with SLog3, there will be a future firmware update to enable SLog2.

Definitely my next camera.

And I am willing to offer a very attractive deal on my F3 kit!
