New Shoot35 Follow Focus....

Any way to opt out of the flight case and save some $$$ or maybe put it towards extra gears, a crank or a whip? I prefer to rig my own pelican cases for efficiency. That case will be a dust collector.

Hi Sheldon,

Sorry, the flight case is offered free, so can not really be exchanged for other products I'm afraid.

Ha ha. :) Nothing is free. It's factored in there somewhere. hoarp001 I see you have the flight case thing for yours too. What's up with the obsession with flight cases? Lol. That's a big box for a fairly small piece of kit. I don't know anyone who would use those once they arrived. Most have go bags and kits ready to fly out the door and won't bring a million little cases. Imagine if each little piece of your full rig came in a case that big?? You'd need an extra room just for the cases! Lol.

Ah well, whatever. ;)

Do you really bring lunch to your sets?? Lol.

Well the HoFo is lots of little peices, loads of gears and cables to keep track of. The case holds them all together. The HoFo is also used for many different cameras, many users don't decant the system out into other cases, they just take the small case when they need it.

The original distributors that we used to deal with (no longer deal with them) requsted cases, so I ordered a number of these cases, so at the moment, they come with the case.

We will offer the HoFo out of the case in the futrue, but doing this will require custom foam and custom cardboard boxes, and the cost mounts up for that as well, so dont expect the case-less hofo to be £200 cheaper....

Pete.

Well to be honest I can see yours being more useful as it is a more expensive piece of kit, much more pieces (transmitter and transceiver) and probably won't be the only follow focus someone has, meaning the may not use it on every shoot. Rather than use the case to bring your lunch, maybe use it to lead up goodies from the catering try so you have dinner or snacks AFTER the shoot. Lol!! JK!

A while ago when i had my custom foam cutting rig set up, I was going to fit a storm case out with foam to hold my lunch, with a triangular cutout for sandwiches and a curved one for a banana etc.

Sadly, an im2100 storm is no where near big enough for *my* lunch.

Actually looking at the size of the case on the Shoot35 forum, it would probably hold 4 good lens with Wayne's lens ring gears + a number of 4x4 filters in pouches for a Chrosziel mattebox.

That way if you are travelling and the camera has to go luggage the lens are with you in a overhead or under seat. One more bit of security.

Not sure of the banana thing, maybe in cold England but might be a mistake in aussie.

A while ago, a friend and I wanted to make a flight case insert for maltesers, each malteser has its own cutout dimple to sit in :D

Same problem with malteser's, bit like banana's in hot weather, more so.

Just as a side note you took one of Wayne's Cinefocus unit's for a test drive. How would you rate it in a 1 out of 10. And did you test out his ring gears.

Thanks.

The Cinefocus is good, we have since bought our own one. Well made, feels nice and smooth, the play adjustment system is very neat and compact. The adjustable pointer is good too, nice and useful. The marking rings pop off and on easily too.

Speed crank is also a nice peice.

As far as indie follow focuses go, its definitely among the top. I have not used the Cinevate one, but it is way above the Redrock V2.

Its a good unit.

I did test his ring gears, and unfortunately, they scratched our zeiss lenses. I suggested to Wayne that he maybe supplies a silicone band to protect the lens barrel, and this is now standard with all of his gear rings. Once installed, they are smooth and strong. Definitely the kind of ring you install once and leave, you can't really take them on and off lenses, you need one ring per lens.

Pete.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the hand on experience feedback. I have been looking at both the Redrock and the Shoot35 and even though I have not seen either, just reading on the forums and reviews I got the impression that the Cinefocus was better value for your money. And Shoot35 have a January sale at present which is a bonus.

Just took delivery of a CINEfocus from Shoot35. Best decision I ever made. And thank you Pete for making it an easy decision.

also recieved my CINEfocus this week, great unit. Plan to rent a 7D next weekend and take it out for a spin.
