Hey friends,

You think I got a good deal here? It's a brand new Schneider Xenon 50mm f2.0.

I don't know nothing about this lens.
Just looking at exotic lens and found this in line with Angenieux, Carl Zeiss
in terms of quality.

"Up for auction is a NEW Schneider Kreuznach Cine Xenon 50mm C Mount for a Bolex or other 16mm cameras. This lens was made in Germany in 1959 based on the serial number 6426539. It is brand new and has never been used. It is in its original case with out a scratch or mark on it and the lens is perfect. It's rare to find an old lens in such a perfect condition. We have taken several pictures of the lens, they are of the actual lens you will receive. There is also a filter hood included. If you are unhappy with this lens when you receive it, simply send ti back for a refund. We ship worldwide!"

Now I need to get a c-mount lens.
Anyone has a recommendation for a good c-mount adapter. :)

That Xenon is obviously a collector's item and you'll be bidding against such guys who are willing to pay through the nose for something to stash on a shelf under a glass dome. I'd say a Canon FD or Nikon 50mm f/1.4 will be a much better deal for a lens you intend to work with and a whole step faster.

Well, I didn't bother to click the link, I just read that description. My opinion still stands, there are better and less expensive 50mm's out there for actual work and just by removing that particular item out of the box and attaching it to a camera drops it's value considerably.

Thanks chrisso. I just bought metabones. :)

Unfortunately. I already won the bidding. :(
Now I'm not sure If I want to use it or just put it on my china cabinet.

The reason I bought it because I saw some amazing footages of Schneider Xenon 25mm in vimeo and
I was amazed by the image quality.
Thinking the 50mm might have the same vibrant colors and sharpness.

I really really do appreciate all your feedback guys. It will keep me more informed on what to get.
Carl Zeiss are really expensive but I want to get the best bang for the bucks without spending
crazy amount of dollars.

Now, I'm on the look out for this Pentax SMC F1.7. Thanks Vitality.

I also on the lookout for 85 F1.4 PLANAR T*MM MANUAL FOCUS LENS
It runs about $700 in ebay. That's what I'm thinking to get next. What do you think guys?

+1 for the Pentax SMC-M 1.7

I have one and it is a gorgeous lens. It is all metal, silky smooth focus with around 270º throw. Definitely sharp enough for video at F1.7 and by F4 it is RAZOR sharp. Very nice and warm color rendition.

Great Voytech. Thanks!

Heading to ebay now to get one. It ranges in prices.
Not sure what to really get because there are many kinds I guess some
are with autofocus. What adapter do you use to fit this for GH1?

You need cheapest one - Pentax SMC 50mm F1.7 M
Three other version exists - A, F and FA.
F and FA are not very suitable for video AF lenses.
A version has higher price because if contacts. This is good for Pentax bodies, but not any others.

Thanks Vitaliy

Thanks Vitaliy

Thanks so much Vitaliy. Really appreciate it.
Any other lens you recommend worth getting. :)

I only have the kit lens and Schneider Xenon 50mm f2.0 by the way.

So coming from an HV20 cam, this is a lot of fun.
I'm also ready with editing since I got my core i7 running 4.2 Ghz w/ SSD HD.
Editing AVCHD is a snap with this machine. I have been editing the
raw avchd without any issues.

Look at any Vivitar (this is brand) lens made by Komine, Kino Precision, Tokina, Kobori. (http://www.mattdentonphoto.com/cameras/vivitar_35mm_m42.html).
You can start from very cheap 28-200mm F3.5-5.3 by Kobori (77xx).
And look after for good primes (like legendary starters of Series I - 200mm F3 and 135mm F2.3).
Or 28-90mm Series I zoom (I think it is one of the most complex zooms ever made).
P.S. Most famous of all Vivitar lenses is 70-210mm F3.5 Series I (beware of different versions). But I don't own this one.

There are certainly faster and cheaper 50mm lenses out there, but don't put this one on the shelf yet! You haven't even used it yet. Play around with it. If you were wowed by other people's use of it there's no reason you can't wow yourself. I wanna see some footage when you get it!

If the Xenon is basically new and worth more because of that, I probably wouldn't touch it. Try to sell it on.
The attraction of the c mount lenses is twofold - quality of the glass, which this lens most certainly has, and fast speeds, which this lens doesn't.
Some c mount lenses also need to be slightly modified to fit properly.

I have a Kodak Ektar 25mm f1.4 which is superb, but it does vignette.
When you look around various forums, especially this one, there are examples of fairly cheap older lenses producing wonderful results on m4/3rds.
As has been said, there are a few incredible 50mm lenses with fast speeds. F2 is pretty standard.

Sample Footage for 25mm version of Schneider Xenon

It vignettes but mine is 50mm. I hope mine does not vignette too much.
